CLEVELAND, Miss. – Valdosta State sophomore
Victoria Bahr scored on a penalty kick in the 71
st minute leading Valdosta State to a 3-2 victory at Delta State Friday afternoon. VSU improved to 6-2-3 overall and 4-2-1 in Gulf South Conference play.
Bahr's second goal of the season and her second converted penalty kick of the season came after there was a foul in the box as VSU outscored Delta State 2-1 for the final frame. Senior
Samantha Worley scored the first goal of the game as the Lady Statesmen leveled the score at 1-1 through the first half. Bahr finished the game with two shots and one on frame with the game winner, her first of the season.
DSU (2-8-1, 1-5 GSC) then took a 2-1 lead at the 58:37 mark on a goal from Jae'lasha Julien, but minutes later, junior
Molly Wooldridge scored to tie the match at 2-2 at the 63:03 mark.
Wooldridge tallied her fourth goal of the season as she finished with two shots and one on goal, while Worley scored on her only shot of the contest to open the scoring in the 14
th minute with an assist from senior
Taylor Morris. It marked Worley's second goal of the season and the first assist for Morris this season. Delta State scored its first goal of the match at the 20:14 mark by Kennedi Turner and assisted by Julien.
VSU improved to 10-1-1 all-time against Delta State as reigning GSC Defensive Player of the Week,
Claire Timberlake, finished with two goals allowed and three saves in the match improving to 3-0-1 on the year. DSU goalkeeper Bailey Daugherty had one save and three goals against.
The Lady Statesmen had a good look in the 81
st minute on a shot by Poppy Derhun, but Timberlake was up to the task for the save. The three goals by VSU were the most in the in the series since a 4-0 win in Cleveland, Miss., on Oct. 16, 2018.
