HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The Valdosta State men's/women's cross country team wrapped up the GSC Cross Country Championship at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Alabama this morning. Both teams finished 10
th overall and had numerous PRs.
For the women, senior
Katie LaCroix led the charge for the Blazers as she clocked a PR of 19:05.8 and finished in 26
th. Right behind her was junior
Caitlyn Koske, who finished with a time of 19:24.7, which was good for 36
th place. She was followed by freshman
Charlotte Carley who was making her GSC Championship debut. She finished with a time of 21:05.2 and placed 69
th. Senior
Kyleigh Rice was a few steps behind her, finishing in 71
st with a time of 21:09.5. Senior
Jaycie Anderson wrapped things up with a time of 26:41.1 and placed 99
th. Lee ran away with the championship, placing first overall with their runners finishing first, third, fourth, fifth, and eighth, to finish with 21 points. They were followed by Mississippi College (44), Alabama-Huntsville (110), Union (131), and Auburn Montgomery (152) to round out the top five.
For the men's side, graduate student
Logan Kraus once again led the Blazers, as he finished with a time of 25:47.5 for the 8K and placed 27
th overall in his last GSC Championship race. After Kraus, it was a jumble of Blazers, as they were fighting for position down to the very last second. Junior
Alec Munger finished in 59
th with a season best time of 27:19 as he passed six runners in the final 3K to secure his spot. His younger brother, freshman
Aaron Munger finished not too far behind as he placed 66
th with a time of 27:30.2. Sophomore
Matthew Herndon was right on Munger's heels, and he finished in 67
th, clocking a new PR with a time of 27:33.8. Freshman
Nathan Hallar placed 70
th with a time of 27:37.4. Graduate student
Adam Mastrobuono finished strong by placing 72
nd with a time of 27:49.5. To round things out, fellow graduate student
Dalton Pender and senior
Austen Sekowski finished in 81
st and 86
th with times of 28:09.9 and 28:45.8, respectively. Lee dominated in the men's field as well, finishing in first place (35). They were followed by Alabama-Huntsville (59), Mississippi College (62), Christian Brothers (149), and Auburn Montgomery (150), to round out the top five.
Up next, the Blazers look to continue their season as they head to Montevallo, Alabama to compete in the NCAA DII South Regional. The men will be running in a 10K, and the women will be competing in a 6K. visit vstateblazers.com for more information.
