VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's soccer team continues on the road this week as it travels to Gulf South Conference leader No. 10 Lee University on Friday evening and then at Shorter on Sunday afternoon. The Blazers and Lady Flames are set for a 7 p.m. kick, while Shorter and VSU are slated to meet at 1 p.m.

The Blazers enter with a 6-3-3 record overall and 4-3-1 record in GSC play and currently are tied for fourth in the league standings with 13 conference points. VSU is tied with West Alabama and West Georgia, while Lee leads the standings with a 6-0-1 record in league play for 19 points and an 8-0-3 record overall. West Florida is one conference point back of Lee at 6-1, while the Argos are 9-1-1 overall. Mississippi College sits third with 15 conference points (5-2) and is 6-2-1 overall.
The top four teams in the final GSC conference standings after the conclusion of the regular season will earn hosting duties in the quarterfinal round of the GSC Championship on Nov. 4. All of the matches for the conference tournament will be broadcast on FloSports.
VSU went 1-1 this past week winning 3-2 at Delta State and then falling at Mississippi College on Sunday, 2-1. The Blazers scored first in both contests as the goal by VSU in the 13
th minute at Mississippi College marked the first time in nine meetings the Blazers had the lead on the Choctaws. Senior
Ana Moleka scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season on an assist from junior
Molly Wooldridge Sunday, while senior
Samantha Worley scored the opener 13:35 into Friday's contest with an assist from senior
Taylor Morris.
Against DSU, the Lady Statesmen scored the equalizer under seven minutes later and then took the lead in the 59
th minute, before VSU was awarded a penalty kick at the 70:00 mark. There, sophomore
Victoria Bahr scored the eventual game winner on the PK for her second goal of the season and first game winner. Just under seven minutes earlier, Wooldridge scored the equalizing goal for her fourth goal of the season. VSU improved to 10-1-1 all-time against DSU.
Following the goal by Moleka on Sunday at the 12:10 mark in the first half, MC's Irene Lores scored the equalizer in the 31
st minute as the teams went to the half tied 1-1. Just 3:14 into the second half, Margherita Giubliato scored her fourth goal of the season which proved to be the game winner for the Choctaws. VSU had a number of good looks in the second half, but was unable to get the tying score. VSU fell to 0-8-1 all-time against MC.
For the season, Moleka leads the team with seven goals and three assists for 17 points. She has 19 shots (.368) and 15 on target (.789) with one game winner. Wooldridge is second in scoring with 11 points on four goals and three assists. She has 29 shots to lead the team (.138) and 15 on target (.517) with one game winner. Junior
Ansley Decenzo has three goals and three assists for nine points with 15 shots (.200) and nine on target (.600), along with one game winner. Sophomore
Hunter Wallace leads the team with two game winners, while Bahr is 2 for 2 in penalty kicks to lead the team.

Claire Timberlake has come on strong this season as she his 3-1-1 this year in 461:23 minutes with six goals allowed (1.71 GAA), 17 saves, one shutout and 47 shots faced. Freshman
Tori Vliet is 2-2-1 on the year in six starts for 483:137 minutes. She has allowed eight goals (1.49 GAA) with 15 saves and faced 52 shots. Sophomore
Emma Pruett is 1-0-1 on the year in 135 minutes, allowing one goal and two saves, along with one shutout and faced 11 shots.
As a team, the Blazers have scored 24 goals with 18 assists and 66 points. VSU is 18
th nationally and second in the GSC in corner kicks per game at 6.50 and 78 set pieces. VSU is tops in the GSC in shots on goal per game (7.75) for 41
st nationally, while the team is third in the league in assists (18) and fourth in both goals (24) and points (66). Individually, Moleka is 30
th nationally and third in the GSC in total goals (7) and third in the league and 33
rd total points (17). Wallace is tied for the league-lead in the game winning goals (2).
Head coach
Stephen Andrew is 196-98-19 all-time in 17 seasons of coaching, while he is 56-43-10 in his seventh season at VSU. Andrew is 2-5-1 all-time against Lee at VSU and is 6-0 against Shorter.
Lee leads the all-time series with VSU 9-2-1 and has gone 3-0-1 in the last four meetings. VSU's last win in the series came on Nov. 7, 2019, with a 2-0 victory in Valdosta, when Lee was ranked No. 17 nationally. VSU's other win in the series also came in Cleveland, Tenn., on Oct. 6, 2017, with a 1-0 victory.
The Blazers lead the all-time series with Shorter, 10-1-1 and have won six-straight in the series. VSU won 8-0 last season in Valdosta as Wooldridge recorded her first hat trick of her career in the match. VSU outshot the Hawks 34-1 and 19-0 in shots on goal. Shorter's lone win came on Sept. 25, 2015, in Rome, Ga., 1-0.
Lee enters at 8-0-3 overall and 6-0-1 in GSC play and No. 10 nationally in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25. The Lady Flames have won their last three matches, outscoring the opposition 15-2, including a 10-0 victory over Shorter last Friday. Lee freshman Amelya Jacobs earned GSC Freshman of the Week honors as she netted a hat trick and one assist against Shorter. This season, Alaysia Nye leads the team with eight goals and one assist for 17 points. She has 36 shots (.222) with 22 on target (.611) and one game winner. Grace Berry is second on the team in scoring with 12 points on four goals and a team-high four assists, along with two game winners to lead the team.
Head coach Chris Hennessey is 122-30-20 in nine seasons of coaching the Lady Flames as his 2023 edition is ninth nationally in points per game (8.45) to lead the league, while it is seventh nationally in scoring offense (3.09) to lead the GSC. Lee is seventh in total assists (25), total goals (34) and total points (93) to lead the GSC in all three areas, while it is 20
th nationally and tops in the league in save percentage at a .867 clip. Lee is seventh nationally in goals against average at a 0.364 average as Abby Whitcomb is 14
thnationally in goals against average at a 0.429 clip. She is 17
th nationally in save percentage (.875), while Nye is 20
th nationally and second in the league in total goals (8).
Lee is second in the USCA South Region rankings, while VSU is eighth in the rankings this week. Embry-Riddle leads the region rankings, followed by Lee, Nova Southeastern, West Florida, Florida Tech, Mississippi College, Eckerd, VSU, Alabama-Huntsville and Florida Southern is tenth.
The Hawks enter the week with a 1-10 record overall and an 0-7 mark in GSC play. Shorter has dropped its last nine contests and will host West Georgia on Friday, before entertaining the Blazers Sunday afternoon. SU has been outscored 44-0 in league matches this season and has scored seven goals on the year as six have come from three players. Juliana Torres leads the team with five points on two goals and one assist. In goal, Shorter has played six different people. SU has seven goals and two assists for 16 points, while the opposition has scored 54 goals with 39 assists for 147 points.
Following the two matches, the Blazers return home for Senior Weekend, Oct. 20-22, hosting Spring Hill College on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. and West Florida on Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. The Blazers then will conclude the regular season On Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. at West Georgia.
