Gill Earns D2CCA First Team All-Region Baseball Honors

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State senior pitcher Elijah Gill earned D2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) First Team All-South Region honors, announced Wednesday. 
 
Gill, a native of Jacksonville, Fla., has had an outstanding season for the Blazers as he leads the GSC in ERA with a 2.97 clip heading into the NCAA South Regional Thursday.   Gill is fourth in the league in in strikeout-to-walk ratio (4.79), while he is second in strikeouts (91) for 36th nationally and second in the league in strikeouts per nine innings (10.82).  Gill has eight wins on the season which are good for fourth in the conference and 36th nationally. 
 
He is 8-1 in 12 starts this season with one complete game, one shutout and one combined shutout in a team-high 75.2 innings of work.  He has allowed 79 hits, 39 runs – 25 earned, walked 19 and fanned 91. Teams are hitting .254 against him this season.  He had a season-high 11 strikeouts at Mississippi College (3/26/22) and recorded ten K's in the Gulf South Conference Tournament-opener against West Florida (5/6/22) in his last outing.  Gill is one of four players from the GSC who earned first team all-region honors, along with Montevallo's Jack Smallwood (C), Delta State's Jake Barlow (2B) and Alabama Huntsville's Garrett Bodine (OF).  An additional eight GSC athletes earned second team honors.
