VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State graduate student men's golfer Wesley Hanson learned on Tuesday that he is one of four individuals to qualify for the NCAA South/Southeast Men's Golf Super Regional, scheduled for May 5-7 at Kinderlou Forest Golf Course in Valdosta.

Hanson will make his third trip to the NCAA postseason and first as an individual as the Blazers qualified in both 2019 and 2021 as a team.  He is the first Blazer to play as an individual since former Blazer standout Matt Anderson finished tied for 19that the 2018 Super Regional at Rock Barn Golf & Spa in Conover, N.C., where he fired a 54-hole score of 215 (71-76-68).

A native of Macon, Ga., Hanson has had a strong season for the Blazers as he has a 74.3 stroke average in ten tournaments and 30 rounds this season.  Hanson has 28 rounds in the 70s and 25 rounds counted in the team score for the season.  Last time out, Hanson paced the Blazers and finished tied for eighth at the Gulf South Conference Championship with an even par score of 216 (70-70-76).

For his career, Hanson has been outstanding both in the classroom and on the course as he is a two-time GSC Men's Golf Champion Scholar-Athlete in 2021 and 2020, while earned GSC Academic Honor Roll accolades and GSC All-Academic honors multiple times.  In 2019-20, he earned Third Team Academic All-America® as selected by CoSIDA honors, marking the first Blazer men's golfer to achieve that in program history.  On the course, Hanson has played in 36 tournaments for 106 rounds with a career 75.15 stroke average.  He has a low-round of 66 for his career and 21 rounds of par or better during his five years as a Blazer.

Hanson joins Andrew Riley of Palm Beach Atlantic, Ian Aldarondo of Embry-Riddle and JJ Logue of Mississippi College as individuals from the South Region, while Mauro Baez of Flagler, Maxime Legros of Lander, Tom Bueschges of Newberry and Alberto Dominguez of Erskine of the Southeast Region for the Super Regional.
