VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 2 Valdosta State men's tennis team snapped a three-match skid with a 7-0 victory over Shorter in the Gulf South Conference opener Friday afternoon at the VSU Tennis Complex. VSU improved to 3-3 on the year, while Shorter fell to 2-6 and 0-5 in GSC play.
With some lineup changes, the Blazers made quick work of the doubles matches, dropping just three games total. At the top spot, sophomores
Edward Etty and
Luca Mack played together for the first time this spring in a 6-2 victory, while freshman
Lamar Bartley and junior
Christian Felline won at No. 2, 6-0 and sophomores
Rodrigo Carvalho and
Christian Wedel won 6-1 at No. 3.
VSU won each singles set in straight-sets as Mack, ranked No. 12 nationally, won at No. 1 over Strahinja Radanovic, 6-1, 6-4, while Bartley won at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0 and Carvalho, ranked No. 29 nationally and this week's GSC Player of the Week, won at No. 3, 6-3, 6-2. Wedel lost just one game at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1, as did Felline at No. 5 and graduate student
Swann Flohr won at No. 6, 6-0, 6-2.
