Farrar Named D2CCA First Team All-South Region

VALDOSTA, Ga. – Valdosta State graduate student Kwajelin Farrar earned D2 Conference Commissioners Association First Team All-South Region, announced Thursday.  She becomes the first Lady Blazer to earn First Team D2CCA All-Region honors since former Lady Blazer Madi Mitchell in both 2017 and 2018. 
 
Union's Jaelencia Williams was named South Region Player of the Year and a spot on the first team, while Eckerd's Maya Price, Tampa's LaShayla Wright-Ponder and Lee's Haley Schubert also join Farrar on the First Team.  Second Team selections were Jaclyn Jarnot of West Florida, Ashiala Jackson of Tuskegee, Julia Jenike and Whitney Jacob of Florida Southern and Emily Jones of Christian Brothers.
 
Farrar, a native of Grovetown, Ga., helped lead VSU to a 23-5 record this season and a school-best 17 victories in the GSC.  The Lady Blazers are scheduled to battle Tampa in the first round of the NCAA South Regional Friday at 3:30 p.m. ET at Union University in Jackson, Tenn.  Fans can access links to live stats, audio/video streaming, ticket information and more at vstateblazers.com on the women's basketball schedule page.  The game also will be broadcast on 92.1 WDDQ FM with Mike Chason having the call.
 
This season, Farrar as put together another outstanding campaign for the red and black as leads the team averaging 14.7 points per game, while she is 15th nationally and third in the GSC in field goal percentage at a .567 clip on 178 of 314 from the field.  Farrar averages a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game and is second in the GSC and 34th nationally in offensive rebounds per game at a 3.8 clip. Farrar has 31 steals on the year with 19 blocks and 50 assists.  She has scored in double figures in 26 games this season and has recorded eight double-doubles for the season. 
 
For her two years at VSU, Farrar has scored 724 points in 50 games, while recording 440 rebounds with 93 assists, 56 steals and 42 blocks.  In her career at both VSU and South Carolina Aiken, Farrar has scored 2,059 career points and 1,350 career rebounds.  Farrar is seventh in D2 among active career leaders in points (2,059), third in rebounds (1,350) and fourth in double-doubles with 64.  For her illustrious career, she is 854 of 1,507 from the field for a .567 average from the field in 135 career games.
 
Last season, she earned WBCA First Team All-America honors last season, helping lead VSU to a GSC East Division title and a berth in the second round of the NCAA South Regional. 
 
Farrar now will go on the ballot for D2CCA All-America consideration as the D2CCA Women's Basketball All-America Teams are expected to be announced March 18, 2022.
