VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State men's basketball team is set to round out the 2021-2022 season at West Georgia on Saturday at 2 p.m. in Carrollton, Ga.
The Blazers enter the contest with a 11-15 record, 7-12 in Gulf South Conference play, while the Wolves enter the game with a 14-12 record and a 11-8 mark in the GSC.
UWG is coming off an 83-81 win over the West Florida Argonauts on Wednesday in Pensacola. Seth Brown-Carter finished with a game-high 22 points, six rebounds, and four assists while Kadeim Jones added 15 points.
Jones currently leads the Wolves' scoring efforts, averaging 15.2 points per game while Brown-Carter has the second highest average with 14.7 points per game. Jalen Sasser leads the team's rebounding efforts, averaging 5.4 per game and grabbing 140 on the year.
UWG currently sits fifth in the GSC standings while the Blazers are in 10th. VSU is coming off a 77-73 loss to Alabama Huntsville on Tuesday.
The team was led by freshman guard Ricky Brown, who went 5 of 11 from beyond the arc and 7 of 14 from the field while the team shot 26 of 61 from the field and 15 of 38 from beyond the arc for a 42.6 field-goal percentage.
Junior guard Jacolbey Owens averages a team high 14.9 points per game while redshirt junior Can Hamilton sits right behind Owens, averaging 13.3 points per game. Junior forward Michael Coke leads the team's rebounding efforts, averaging 6.7 per game.
The Blazers and Wolves previously met on Dec. 4, 2021 inside the Complex where VSU fell to UWG, 86-79.
The Blazers went 27 of 59 from the field and four of 18 outside the arc in the game. VSU recorded 19 points off turnovers and sunk 21 of 30 (70%) free throws. For the Wolves, Jones led the offense with 19 points along with seven rebounds. Brown-Carter put up 18 points on the night while also grabbing six rebounds.
