VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State University men's basketball team is set to conclude its 2021-22 regular-season home slate with Lee on Feb. 17 at 8 p.m., and Shorter on Feb. 19 at 4 p.m. inside the Complex.
The Blazers are 11-12 on the year, 7-9 in the Gulf South Conference, and sit ninth in the league while Lee is 13-8 overall, 9-6 in the GSC and are currently in third, right behind West Alabama and Union. Shorter, who travels to Pensacola on Feb. 17 to take on West Florida before making the trip to Titletown, has a 4-16 record on the year and a 1-14 mark in the GSC.
Blazer junior guard Jacolbey Owens leads the scoring effort for the Blazers, putting up 15.2 points per game, while redshirt junior guard Cam Hamilton averages 12.7 points per game through 23 contests. Owens also is third in the GSC in assists with 91. Junior forward Michael Cole leads VSU's rebounding, averaging 7.2 rebounds per game, good for sixth in the GSC.
For the Flames, Quay Kennedy leads the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 13.4 points per game, and 5.9 rebounds per game. Kennedy also has the third-highest free throw percentage for an .854 percentage in 20 games played.
The Blazers last faced Lee on Dec. 13, 2021, in Cleveland, Tenn., and fell 87-64. The Blazers are looking to snap a five-game losing streak with the Flames. The Blazers last faced the Hawks on Dec. 11, 2021, and walked away with an 85-70 win on the road. The Blazers are riding a 13-game win streak with the Hawks.
After the final two home games, VSU will travel to Alabama Huntsville on Feb. 22 to take on Alabama Huntsville at 5 p.m. ET, in a makeup game from earlier in the season, and then West Georgia on Feb. 26 at 2 p.m., to conclude the regular season.
The GSC tournament begins on Mar. 1 on campus sites for "Super Tuesday", while the semifinal and championship will be on Mar. 5 and 6, respectfully, in Birmingham, Ala., on the campus of Samford University.
