VALDOSTA, Ga. – The volleyball and women's soccer teams return home this week, while the football team travels to West Georgia for the annual Peach Basket Game.  
 
Volleyball
 
The Valdosta State volleyball team returns to conference action this week, playing host to Alabama Huntsville on Friday, Oct. 21 for Youth Volleyball Night inside The Complex at 6 p.m., and then Montevallo on Oct. 22 at 1 p.m.  
 
The Blazers enter the week with an 8-17 record and a 2-7 mark in the Gulf South Conference and are coming off the GSC/SSC Regional Crossover in Hoover, Ala., last weekend. The Blazers fell to Saint Leo 3-0 last Friday, 3-1 to Florida Tech last Saturday and dropped a five-set heartbreaker to Rollins to round out the crossover.  
 
On Friday, the Blazers will host Youth Volleyball Night, where fans will be able to get a limited number of youth VSU volleyball t-shirts and get autographs following the match from VSU volleyball players. On the year, the Blazers are hitting .142 and have recorded 974 kills, a conference-high 204 aces, 1,391 digs and a conference-high 184 blocks. The team also leads the conference in aces per set with 2.24. Sophomore Lyara Rosario leads the GSC In service aces with 55, good for fourth nationally, while sophomore Christina Pettigrew leads the conference in blocks and blocks per set with 96 and 1.08, respectively. Sophomore Jojo Smith leads the Blazer offense with 245 kills on the year while sophomore Mackenzie Murray has 245 kills on the year. On defense, Rosario leads the team with 259 digs while sophomore Christina Pettigrew has a team-high 96 blocks on the year.  
 
The Chargers come to Titletown with a 10-13 record and a 4-5 mark in the GSC. UAH defeated Florida Southern and Palm Beach Atlantic in the GSC/SSC Regional Crossover and rounded out the weekend with a 3-1 loss to Lynn. UAH has a slight advantage over the Blazers with a 28-21 overall mark.  
 
The team is hitting .166 on the year and has recorded 459 kills, 141 aces, 1,198 digs and 172 blocks. Gracie McGee leads the offense with 202 kills on the year while Shayla Libby has 557 digs and Parris Morris and Zharia Hubbard have 59 blocks total.  
 
For the Falcons, the team enters the week with a 15-9 record and a 7-2 mark in the GSC and will take on West Georgia on Friday before taking on Valdosta on Saturday. In the Regional Crossover, the Falcons fell to Tampa last Friday and rounded out the weekend with losses to Florida Southern and Lynn.  
 
The Falcons are hitting .198 on the year and have 1,101 kills, 146 aces, 1,402 digs and 158.5 blocks. Macy Martin leads the offense with 255 kills while Allie Dishman has a team-high 32 service aces. Casey Hendrixson has a team-high 430 digs on defense and Morgan Hoffman has 71 blocks at the net. 
 
Following UAH and Montevallo, the Blazers will play host to Shorter on Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. inside the Complex.  
 
 
Women's Soccer
 
The Valdosta State women's soccer team returns home to close out the 2022 regular season with Montevallo on Friday at 7 p.m. at the VSU Soccer Complex and on Sunday at 1 p.m. versus Auburn Montgomery for Senior Day.  
 
VSU enters the final week of the season with a 3-10-1 record overall and a 2-9 mark in the Gulf South Conference.  The Blazers are looking for their 100th victory in program history 99-83-24 (.539) and 68-46-17 (.584) all-time in the GSC.  Sixth-year head coach Stephen Andrew is looking for his school-record 50th victory at VSU as he is 49-39-7 (.553) and 189-94-16 (.659) overall in 16 seasons of coaching at the college level. 
 
The Blazers have dropped their last seven matches and the last four have been by one goal, including a 1-0 loss at Alabama Huntsville last Sunday and a 2-1 loss at West Alabama a week ago Friday.  Against UWA, VSU senior Bailey Hern scored on a penalty kick in the 20th minute, but UWA scored two goals in a span of 1:27 in the 83rd and 84th minutes, respectively for the victory.  In Sunday's contest, UAH scored a goal in the 30th minute for the game winner.  
 
For the season, freshman Victoria Bahr leads the team with four goals and eight points.  She has 27 shots to lead the team and 15 on target along with one game winner.  Sophomore Molly Wooldridge has three goals for six points and 23 shots with ten on frame and one game winner.  Hern has two goals with one assist for five points and 22 shots with ten on goal.  Sophomore Taylor Morris and senior Morghan Craven lead the team with three assists each.  

In goal, sophomore Emma Pruett has played in 12 games with 11 starts for 961 minutes.  She has allowed 19 goals with 30 saves and two shutouts, while junior Landon Carter has played in five matches with three starts for 299 minutes.  She has allowed nine goals with 13 saves and combined on one shutout.
 
Montevallo enters with a 7-2-2 record in GSC play and a 11-2-2 mark overall.  The Falcons have clinched a spot in the GSC postseason and have gone 2-0-2 in their last four games, including a 10-0 victory over Shorter on Sunday.  Ironically, ten different Falcons scored goals in the win.  Prior to that, UM handed then-No. 18 Lee a 2-1 loss for Lee's second conference loss of the season.  
 
This season, the Falcons are led by Angelina Rivas who leads the team with seven goals and 14 points.  She has 40 shots with 25 on target and four game winners, while going 2 of 3 in penalty kicks.  Espy Sanchez is second in scoring with 12 points on five goals and two assists.  She has 21 shots and 13 on frame, while going 2 for 2 in penalty kicks.  Avery Campbell and Madeline Milby lead the team with three assists each.  
 
In goal, three different players have seen action with Emily Hounsell and Jolie Cazale each starting seven matches.  Hounsell leads the team with a 1.00 goals against average with seven goals allowed and 26 saves, while Cazale has nine goals allowed and 25 saves.
 
VSU leads the all-time series 4-2-1, but UM won the last meeting with a 2-1, double overtime victory in Montevallo, Ala., on Oct. 29, 2021.  Hern scored the lone goal for the Blazers in the 14th minute, while UM's Zariah Nogales scored in the 36th minute and Sanchez scored 1:43 into the second overtime for the golden goal victory.  The teams played to a scoreless draw the last time in Valdosta on Mar. 10, 2021.  
 
AUM enters with a 3-9-2 record overall and a 3-6-2 mark in the GSC.  The Warhawks still are in contention for a postseason berth, but will need two win both of their final matches at West Georgia (Friday) and at VSU on Sunday and have some help to qualify.  The Warhawks are coming off a 1-1 tie against then-No. 18 Lee on Sunday and won against Shorter 4-1 last Friday.
 
This season, Mayson Jaindl leads the team with 12 points on five goals and two assists.  She has 29 shots with 15 on target and one game winner.  Julia Simoes is second in scoring with six points on three goals, while Anila Mantello leads the team with four assists.  In goal, Rebecca Jamieson has allowed 30 goals with 67 saves and a 2-9 record this season.  Karla Gaytan has one shutout with three goals against and 15 saves.  
 
The Blazers lead the all-time series 5-1 and have won five-straight, including a 2-1 decision in Montgomery on Oct. 31, 2021, and a 4-3 double overtime decision on Mar. 5, 2021.  The teams have not played in Valdosta since a 6-0 VSU victory on Sept. 29, 2019, where former Blazer Ashley Lewis had a hat trick with three goals and one assist.
