NORMAN, Okla. – The Valdosta State men's golf team was one of 21 schools in NCAA Division II with a 3.0 team cumulative grade-point average or better for the season and honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) with its annual Team Academic Award.
VSU, Lee and West Georgia were the only Gulf South Conference schools to earn the academic award. A total of 13 additional Division II men's golf programs were honored with a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher. Lander (S.C.) finished with the highest GPA in Division II at a 3.89.
The men's golf team competed in two tournaments in the fall and then had its traditional spring season. The Blazers qualified for the NCAA South/Southeast Super Regional for the second-straight time, while
Wesley Hanson was named Gulf South Conference Men's Golf Spring Scholar-Athlete for the second-straight season. Hanson and
Chase Weathers earned All-GSC Second Team honors and were both named to the GSC All-Academic Team. Hanson also was named CoSIDA Academic All-District for the second-straight year. He will return in the fall as a graduate student using his COVID year from the 2019-20 season.
