The Blazer Spotlight Podcast is in its second season and is produced by Assistant Professor of Digital Production, Dr. Colin Walker, and hosted by Assistant Athletic Director for Development

In 2019-20, Malone and Dr. Walker brought The Blazer Spotlight Podcast to life and won Best of Competition 2020 Broadcast Education Association Faculty Sports Radio Competition for the episode featuring VSU head women's soccer coach
Stephen Andrew. This week's episode is the tenth of the 2020-21 season, and second of 2021, while the 2019-20 season had a total of 23 episodes featuring numerous Blazer coaches, student-athletes and more.
This is the 14
th episode of the second season and the sixth of the 2021 calendar.
Blankenship, a native of Fleming Island, Fla., played two seasons at St. Johns River CC before coming to VSU in 2018-19. In 2019, he went 7-2 with a 4.86 ERA in 19 appearances and 12 starts. He earned GSC Academic Honor Roll accolades, while his seven victories were good for fifth in the GSC. Last season, he went 2-1 in seven appearances with five starts in the COVID-19 shortened season.
This season, Blankenship has helped VSU to a 14-6 record overall and a 12-5 mark in the GSC. He is 2-1 with a 4.08 ERA in 28.2 innings. Blankenship has fanned 30 for third on the team, while he has walked just five. He tossed a nine-inning, one-hit, complete game shutout against Auburn Montgomery on Feb. 21, 2021, in Valdosta. In the game, he fanned ten and walked one as he was named GSC Pitcher of the Week and NCBWA South Region Pitcher of the Week.
On the show, Blankenship talks about the huge upcoming series with No. 13 West Florida beginning Friday at 5 p.m. at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park. The series concludes with a doubleheader Saturday at 1 p.m.
