VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's soccer team learned Friday it will face West Alabama in the Gulf South Spring Championship Series Sunday at 3 p.m. at West Georgia.

The Blazers finished the regular season 3-1-2 record overall and a 3-0-2 mark in the GSC East Division. All but one of VSU's matches this season (2-1 season-opening loss to Flagler) went to overtime or double overtime this season. Paige Taylor. Shorter's Juliana Torres leveled the match in the 85
th minute from a deep shot outside the 18 sending the match to extra time. VSU held a season-best 30-7 lead in shots and 19-5 in shots on goal for the match, while recording a season-high 18 corner kicks.
VSU is the No. 2 seed in the East Division, while West Alabama is the No. 3 seed in the West Division. West Alabama enters with a 4-2-1 record overall and a 2-2-1 mark in the West Division. UWA has outscored the opposition this season, 10-5, while it averages 11.0 shots per game for a .152 average. The Tigers have 38 shots on target for a .576 average for the season. UWA has three assists for the year with 16 saves and 26 corner kicks.
Individually, the Tigers are led by Anele Komani with three goals and one assist for seven points. She has 19 shots and 11 on target with one game winner and is 1 for 1 in penalty kicks. Paige Laidler and Morgan Ongteco each have two goals on the year, while three other Tigers each have one goal. Between the posts, Tabitha Weldon has played all 578:16 minutes, allowing five goals for a 0.78 goals against average. She has 18 saves and is 4-2-1 on the year with three shutouts. UWA posted a 1-0 victory over Shorter in the first round of the GSC Spring Championship Series on Thursday.
With being the No. 2 seed in the East, VSU received a bye for the first round of the GSC Championship Series and will be considered the "home team" for the match Sunday. The winner of Sunday's match will face the winner of No. 5W Alabama Huntsville vs. No. 1W Seed Mississippi College on Mar. 27 or Mar. 28 at the highest remaining seed. The GSC Spring Championship Match is scheduled for Apr. 3 at John Hunt Park in Huntsville, Ala.

For the season, the Blazers have scored 13 goals with 10 assists and 36 points. VSU has 82 shots (.159 average) with 52 on frame (.634), three game winners and is 2 for 2 in penalty kicks. VSU has 41 corner kicks for the season. Individually, Howard leads the team with four goals, three assists and 11 points. VSU leads the all-time series with West Alabama, 5-4-2, but the Tigers have won the last three meetings in the series. UWA has outscored VSU 6-2 in the previous three meetings, while the team are 4-4-2 in the previous ten matchups. This will be the first neutral site matchup in series history.
