MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Valdosta State women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision at Auburn Montgomery Friday afternoon in the Gulf South Conference opener for the Blazers.
The Blazers fell to 0-3 on the year and 0-1 in GSC play, but got wins at Nos. 2 and 3 in singles in the match. Freshman
Rachelle Starreveld won at No. 2, 6-0, 6-3, while sophomore
Birte Langenstein won at No. 3, 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. The victory by Starreveld at No. 2, pulled VSU within 2-1 in the team scoring after AUM won the doubles point and Maria Casas won at No. 4, 6-2, 6-2 over freshman
Julia Saving.
The Warhawks (2-2, 2-1 GSC) won at Nos. 5 and 1 to clinch the match, but Langenstein's win at No. 3 gave VSU its second point of the match for the final margin of 5-2.
VSU returns home to host Delta State on Sat., Mar. 6, at 1 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex.
