VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 15 Valdosta State women's basketball team returns to The Complex this weekend with a pair of Gulf South Conference games Saturday at 2 p.m. versus Montevallo and Monday at 6 p.m. versus Auburn Montgomery. The Lady Blazers enter the games with a 7-2 record overall and a 2-1 mark in Gulf South Conference play, while Montevallo is 5-6 overall and 1-2 in league play. AUM is 4-3 and 0-2 in league play as the Warhawks will play at West Florida on Saturday, before heading to Titletown on Monday.
VSU is coming off a split on the road this past week with an 88-40 victory at Shorter and a disappointing 56-45 loss at No. 20 Lee last Monday. VSU played well enough to win the game at Lee in the final three quarters, but was outscored 22-4 in the first frame. Lady Blazer graduate student
Kwajelin Farrar had a game-high 15 points and 14 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season, finishing 5 of 13 from the field with five free throws, nine defensive rebounds and five on the offensive end. Sophomore
Lili Long added 11 points and five rebounds. Ironically, both losses this season for the Lady Blazers have been by the identical score of 56-45 with the loss to Lee and a loss to Georgia College on Nov. 20.
Montevallo was picked just behind the Lady Blazers in the GSC Preseason Coaches Poll, released in October as VSU was selected third and the Falcons were fourth. Auburn Montgomery was picked 12
th in the preseason poll.
The Falcons are coming off a 92-64 victory over Cumberland University Phoenix as Jordan Jones had a team-high 17 points for the Falcons leading three players in double figures. Montevallo has an 81-67 victory this season over now-No. 13 Tampa the first weekend of the season. UM's lone GSC victory came with a 69-58 decision over AUM, while it dropped a pair of home games to Mississippi College and Delta State.
UM is averaging 69.3 points per game and allowing 70.8 per contest this season and is under the direction of head coach Gary Van Atta, who is in his sixth season at the helm of the Falcons. He guided the team to a 14-7 record last season and a 13-4 mark in the East Division for second behind VSU. Van Atta is 58-85 at Montevallo, while he is 545-376 at four-year institutions overall.
This season, the Falcons are led by Jones at 13.6 points per game as she is 55 of 131 from the field (.420) an 18 of 44 from beyond the arc for a .409 clip. Jones is 22 of 30 from the line, while she is averaging 3.5 rebounds per game. Second on the team in scoring is Kiya Sain at 11.6 points per contest. Sain leads the team with 19 treys on the year. Sain is averaging 4.3 rebounds per game. Third on the team in scoring is Shyan Flack at 11.4 points per game. Flack leads the team averaging 7.2 rebounds inside. She is 45 of 93 from the field and 31 of 43 from the line to lead the team from the stripe. Marisa Snodgrass leads the team with 50 assists and 27 steals as she is averaging 6.6 points per game.
AUM enters the week averaging 63.6 points per game and allowing just 52.3 per contest. The Warhawks are led this season by Caitlin Carter who leads the team averaging 10.9 points per game. She is 28 of 65 from the field (.431) and 19 of 27 from the line. Carter is averaging 3.7 rebounds per game. Second on the team in scoring is Jamya Tyus at 9.9 points per game, as she is 26 of 44 from the field for a .591 clip to lead the team. Jordan Brewster is third in scoring at 9.3 points per game and is a team-best 18 of 50 from beyond the arc. Demaurea Moore leads the team averaging 6.1 rebounds per game.
For the season, the Lady Blazers are averaging 66.9 points per game and allowing 51.3 points per contest. VSU is shooting at a .419 clip this season and holding the opposition to a .332 average. The Lady Blazers are shooting .301 from beyond the arc, and .672 from the line, while the opponents are at a .210 clip from deep and a .700 average at the line. VSU is out rebounding the opponents by an 8.7 margin at 40.1 per game to 31.4 allowed.
Individually, Farrar leads the team averaging 14.7 points per game and 8.9 rebounds per game, while graduate student
Nicole Heyn is second in scoring at 11.7 points per game and 7.2 rebounds per game. Sophomore
Tamiya Francis is third in scoring at 10.3 points per game and leads the team with 28 assists and 16 steals.

Deandra Schirmer is in her third season at VSU and is 43-22 and has compiled a 22-13 record in GSC play.
Following the games, the Lady Blazers have a week off for the Christmas Break and don't return to game action until Dec. 31 and Jan. 2, at Alabama Huntsville and West Alabama, respectively. VSU then returns to The Complex Jan. 13 and Jan. 15, versus Delta State and Mississippi College, respectively, for Hall of Fame Weekend.
