VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State University men's basketball team is set to take on the Montevallo Falcons on Saturday at 4 p.m. and the Auburn Montgomery Warhawks on Monday at 8 p.m. for the final two games of 2021. The Blazers enter the games with a 5-5 record, and a 1-2 mark in the Gulf South Conference.
Tough Battle at Lee
VSU fell to the Lee Flames on December 13 in Cleveland, Tenn., 87-64. The Blazers were led by freshman guard
Ricky Brown, who put up 15 points in addition to one assist and one steal. Junior forward
Mohamed Fofana led the Blazers in rebounds with seven while junior forward
Maurice Gordon picked up four rebounds and went five of six from the free-throw line. For the game, the Blazers shot 18 of 48 from the field and 10 of 19 from outside the arc.
The Blazers picked up an 85-70 win at Shorter on December 11 for their first GSC win of the season. The Blazers shot 32 of 63 during the game and six of 19 outside the arc.
Cam Hamilton and
Cam Selders led the team with 16 points each. Hamilton picked up his first double-double of the season, went six of 11 from the field, and picked up ten rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Selders, who had a season-high 16 points, went seven of nine from the field and picked up five rebounds, one assist, one block, and two steals.
vs. Montevallo
The Blazers are facing off against the Falcons for the 11th time since 2017. The Falcons are coming off a 69-62 loss to Delta State on December 14. The Falcons finished the 2020-21 season with a record of 8-9 and 8-8 in the GSC, and were picked seventh in the GSC Preseason Poll.
Malcolm Xavier leads the team averaging 15.2 points per game. He currently has a .434 field goal percentage, going 49 of 113 from the field. AarisMonte Bonds leads the team in rebounds, averaging 6.5 per game while Jason King averages 4.8 rebounds per game.
vs. Auburn Montgomery
The Blazers are facing off against the Warhawks for the 11th time since 2018. AUM is coming off a 78-67 loss against Delta State, and faces off against West Florida on Saturday before making the trip down to Titletown.
The Warhawks finished the 2020-2021 season with a 3-14 record and was picked 10th in the GSC in the preseason poll. The Warhawks are led by Isaiah Hart, who averages 18.1 points per game and Stanley Davis who averages 14 points per game. Jeremiah Bozeman leads the team in rebounds with 77, averaging 7.7 per game and James Graham who has 68 on the season and averages 6.8 per game.
