Match Information – Valdosta State at Clark Atlanta

Atlanta, Ga. – The Valdosta State volleyball defeated Clark Atlanta in a non-conference matchup this evening as they wrapped up its three-match road series. The Blazers won in three sets as this was their first time matching up against the Panthers since September 7, 2012. 
 
First Set: 
The Blazers started the match two points behind the Panthers but tied the set at two with a kill by graduate student 
Deona Mims and freshman 
Jojo Smith. VSU eventually took the lead 11-8 off attacking errors as the Panthers tried to scratch their way back. Kills from freshman 
Caitlin Warnshuis, freshman 
Kylie Stroehlein, and Smith with assists from senior 
Tammy Reyes-Perez, gave the Blazers a seven-point lead as they cruised to take the first set 25-15. 
 
Second Set: 
CAU took the early lead in the second set, 3-1.  VSU fought back up and tied the set at eight with a kill from Reyes-Perez and the assist from redshirt freshman 
Lyara Rosario. The set went back and forth between as neither team gained much of a lead until the Blazers began to pull away and took the second set 25-18. 
 
Third Set: 
The Panthers took an early 2-0 lead, once again, but the Blazers responded with a run and proceeded to lead 5-2 with a kill and two service aces by Stroehlein. CAU scored three-straight but was stopped and followed by a VSU four-point run, making the score 9-5. VSU added to its lead with a kill by sophomore Kennedy Deluca and freshman 
Ah'Miah Harris, as she recorded her first collegiate kill, for a 16-11 advantage. The Blazers went on to take set three 25-17 and the match 3-0.  It marked the second straight-set victory for the Blazers this season (UNC Pembroke, Sept. 11). 
 
Inside the Numbers: 
In the three sets played, the Blazers totaled 42 digs, 38 kills and hit .165 for the match.  VSU tallied 37 assists, eight aces, and three blocks. Leading VSU in kills was Smith with 10, Stroehlein with nine, and Mims with five. Reyes-Perez led the Blazers with 35 assists and added two blocks. Leading VSU in digs was Rosario with 14, followed by Stroehlein with eight and 
Ramsey Marshall with six. Both Rosario and Stroehlein also recorded three aces each as Mims tallied one. Deluca recorded two blocks as Smith added one. 
 
Upcoming: 
The Blazers are back in action at The Complex on Friday, Oct. 8, as they battle Gulf South Conference opponents Lee at 6 p.m., and Shorter Saturday at 3 p.m.
