VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State Volleyball team continues conference play this weekend as it heads to Montevallo for a Friday match at 7 p.m. ET and Saturday at Alabama Huntsville for a 2 p.m. ET match.

This is the first matchup of the season for the Blazers between these two conference foes as VSU last faced Montevallo on March 6, 2021, in Valdosta and Alabama Huntsville on November 2, 2019, also in Valdosta. VSU is looking to bounce back from the last matchup against these teams as they fell to the Falcons 3-0 last spring and to the Chargers 3-1 in 2019.

Montevallo has won four of the last five meetings in the series and four-straight after VSU won 3-0 on Sept. 15, 2017. VSU has won 14 of the last 18 in the series against UAH, but the Chargers have won three of the last four. VSU won 3-1 in Huntsville in 2018 on Oct. 13. During the last 18 games, VSU is 6-3 in Huntsville.Â

The Blazers are returning to play from competing in the Gulf South Conference/ Sunshine State Conference Crossover held in Winter Haven, Fla. where they fell to Barry, Lynn, and Florida Southern.

The Blazers are currently 11-14 overall and 4-5 in the GSC conference while Montevallo is 12-12 overall and 3-6 in conference and Alabama Huntsville is 15-7 overall and 7-2 in conference. Heading down the stretch, the Blazers currently are seventh in the league standings, one game in front of Montevallo, Mississippi College and Lee, for the final spot in the upcoming GSC Championship. VSU split the season series with Lee and won the only meeting with Mississippi College this season.

Statistically speaking, VSU is third in the GSC in total digs with 1,502 for 33rd nationally, while it is 20th nationally in total attacks and second in the league with 3,396 this season. Individually, senior
Tammy Reyes-Perez is second in the GSC in assists per set (9.51), while she is 6th nationally (second in GSC) in total assists with 894. Redshirt freshman
Lyara Rosario is 18th nationally and first in the GSC in total digs with 460.

Redshirt-freshman and current GSC Volleyball Freshman of the Week,
Caitlin Warnshuis, is eighth in the GSC in hitting percentage, hitting a .313. On the season, Warnshuis has recorded 110 kills on 35 errors with 240 total attacks.

Following the weekend slate, the Blazers continue on the road facing Shorter University on November 2, at 6 pm, in Rome, Ga., and then back home to host Christian Brothers on Nov. 5 at 6 p.m., at Valdosta High School and then on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 1 p.m. for Senior Day against Union in The Complex.
