CLEVELAND, Tenn. – Blazer volleyball fell to Lee University Tuesday evening for their second and final matchup this season with the Flames. Gulf South Conference Volleyball Freshman of the Week,
Jojo Smith, recorded another double-double and led the Blazers with 19 kills, a .192 hitting percentage and recorded ten digs.Â

First Set:Â
Lee took the lead 5-2 with a block early in the first set, but a missed serve gave VSU the ball as the Blazers looked to start a rally. Â

VSU tied the match at 12 with Smith at the serving line, but Lee came back on top with a kill and proceeded to make the score 16-13. Â

Deona Mims recorded a kill, but the Blazers still trailed by five when the team called its second and final timeout of the match, 14-19. Â

VSU recorded three straight points with a kill by senior
Tammy Reyes-Perez, a block by Smith, and a Flames attacking error forcing Lee to call their first timeout, 19-17.Â

The Blazers could not catch back up after the timeout, and the Flames took the first set 25-20.Â

Second Set:Â
The Blazers started the second set off 6-0 with two kills by Smith, both assisted by Reyes-Perez. A Flames timeout followed the rally as they looked to take the momentum back. Â

After the timeout, Lee created a rally and brought the Blazer's lead down to two, 8-6. VSU called a timeout as the game became tied at eight. Two kills by freshman
Kylie Stroehlein and one by Reyes-Perez made the score 15-10. Â

Junior
Zoey Chilcote recorded a kill as VSU led 20-15 but was followed by a Blazers service error and gave the ball to the Flames. Â

Lee was unable to fight back, and VSU continued to take the second set 25-17.Â

Third Set:Â
With a kill by graduate
Grace Daugherty and a Smith service ace, the match was tied at two before the Flames took a three-point lead. The Flames scored off two kills and a service ace, bringing the scoreline to 7-4.Â

A VSU service error brought the match to 15-8 and was followed by a timeout as they looked to regroup. A Smith kill gave the ball back to the Blazers, who looked to start a rally and decrease the Flames' lead.Â

Lee continued their stellar offense and took the biggest lead of the match, 22-10. The Blazers tried to catch back up but were unsuccessful, and the Flames took the third set, 25-14.Â

Fourth Set:Â
Lee took the lead in the fourth set, but VSU rallied, and the score was a one-point difference with a block by Stroehlein and freshman
Ah'Miah Harris, 6-5. Â

Lyara Rosario was sent back to the service line via a Flame's attacking error as she looked to start a Blazers rally with the score of 9-7 in favor of Lee.Â

Smith, Stroehlein, and Daugherty eventually recorded kills, but the Flames stayed on top 18-15. Â
Â
Following the Blazers' final timeout of the set, VSU could not close the lead, and Lee took the fourth set 25-16 and the match 3-1.Â

Inside the Numbers:Â
VSU had 69 digs, 46 kills, 44 assists, nine blocks, and two aces for the match. Leading the Blazers in kills was Smith with 19, Stroehlein with 10, and Daugherty with six. Rosario led with 27 digs, followed by redshirt freshman Ramsey Marshal with 11, and Smith with 10. Â
Harris recorded four blocks, with Daugherty and Stroehlein both recorded three. Reyes-Perez led with 40 assists, and Stroehlein and junior
Erin Ergle each recorded one ace.Â
