Imoras Agee were named the Steel's Jewelry Blazer Athletes of the Week. This is the first honor of the season for Smith and second for Agee.
Smith, a native of Cincinnati, Ohio, earned Gulf South Conference East Division Freshman of the Week honors for the second-straight time, as she put together her first double-double of her career in Saturday's 72-55 victory over Auburn Montgomery. Smith had a career-high 18 points and 15 rebounds in the game. She went 6 of 11 from the field, 1 of 2 from range and 5 of 6 from the line. In the two victories with AUM, she averaged 11.0 points per game, going 7 of 14 from the field with one trey and 19 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end. She and the Lady Blazers are out to a 5-0 start this season marking the best record in the GSC. VSU's 5-0 start is the best since the 2005-06 season and the current five-game winning streak is the longest since the 2017-18 season.
For the season, Smith currently stands eighth in the GSC in rebounds this season with 33, while she is averaging 6.6 rebounds per game. She is third on the team in scoring at 9.6 points per game this season, while she is 17 of 40 from the field (.425) with three treys and 11 of 14 from the line (.786). Smith sits second on the team in offensive rebounds with 11 and a 2.2 offensive rebound average per game.
The Lady Blazers head to Shorter for a pair of games this weekend as they will tip at 6 p.m. on Friday, followed by a 2 p.m. start on Saturday. The games will be broadcast on 94.3 WJEM FM, online at foxsportsvaldosta.com and Spencer Van Horn will have the call.
Agee, a native of Linden, Ala., was named GSC East Division Player of the Week for the first time this season. He had a terrific weekend as he helped lead the No. 11 Blazers to a pair of victories at Auburn Montgomery over the weekend. Agee went 14 of 31 from the field (.452) with seven balls from beyond the arch in 12 attempts (.583) and was eight of 10 from the line. He averaged seven rebounds per game, with seven assists, and four steals. Agee averaged 21.5 points per game and recorded his first ever double-double as a Blazer during Sunday's matchup. He recorded a game-high 24 points in Sunday's 99-72 victory and brought down a career-high 11 rebounds. Agee went 5 of 7 from range and 8 of 14 from the field. On Saturday, Agee scored 19 points on 6 of 17 shooting in the 89-76 victory.
The Blazers are 3-0 on the year and will finally play their first home games of the season this weekend with a 7 p.m. tip Friday versus Shorter and a 2 p.m. start Saturday also against Shorter.
