Blazer Volleyball Earns USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for 2019-2020 Season

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Valdosta State volleyball team was one of eight from the Gulf South Conference to earn The United States Marine Corps (USMC) and the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2019-2020 season.  
 
Overall, 1,315 teams have earned the award for this past season, topping last year's record by almost 200 teams.  A total of 232 programs received Team Academic honors for the first time in 2020.  
 
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.
 
VSU finished the 2019-20 academic year a 3.34 cumulative team grade-point average and had a 3.52 GPA in the spring.  This marks the fifth time VSU has earned the prestigious honor and the first since the 2015-16 academic year.  
 
Along with the Blazers, Alabama Huntsville, Auburn Montgomery, Lee, Mississippi College, Montevallo, Union, Valdosta State and West Georgia all were recognized this season.
