VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State baseball team scored eight runs in the first inning en route to an 11-1, eight inning, run-rule victory to sweep a three-game series from visiting Christian Brothers Sunday morning. VSU tallied 11 runs on 13 hits and one error in the game, while holding CBU to one run on three hits and four errors.
The Blazers (24-17, 12-11 GSC) won their fifth-straight game as they started fast in the first inning, plating eight runs on seven hits. Senior
Mack Hathcock began the game with a ground-rule double and a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt put two on base. Senior
Josh Broughton doubled home two runs for a 2-0 lead as the Blazers brought 13 men to the plate, scoring all eight runs with either no outs or one out.

Zach Blankenship pitched six strong innings of two hit baseball as he allowed one unearned run with two walks and fanned nine Bucs. VSU added two more runs in the fifth as Broughton, once again, singled home two runs for a 10-0 lead.
CBU (8-29, 4-20 GSC) scored its lone run of the game in the top of the sixth as a fielding error on the Blazers allowed Keagan Voss to reach and Kyle Hindman hit a sacrifice fly for a 10-1 score. VSU had runners at first and second with one out in the sixth, but was unable to score.

Andrew Williamson doubled to right center and junior
Jordan Holt singled through the right side for a RBI and the game winner.
Broughton finished the game 2 for 4 with a run scored and four RBI, while Holt was 3 for 3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Blankenship improved to 4-2 on the year. Voss paced CBU with two of its three hits.
