Volleyball Set to Face Tough Competition on the Road

VALDOSTA, Ga.- The Valdosta State volleyball team goes back on the road this week, as they face Auburn Montgomery and West Georgia. Auburn Montgomery will be the first opponent as the Blazers will face the Warhawks Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, VSU travels to West Georgia, as the Blazers and Wolves square off at 12:00 PM.
 
Who is Auburn Montgomery?
  • Currently, the Warhawks sport a 15-11 record overall and a 6-5 record in Gulf South Conference play.
  • AUM is 4-1 in its last five matches.
  • The Blazers and Warhawks have already  faced each other once this year, with the Warhawks winning in five sets.
  • Senior outside hitter Sommer Rhea leads the Warhawks in kills (288) and K/set (3.24).
  • Junior Carla Butler (412 digs) and senior Ariadne Borges (73 blocks) lead the Warhawks defensively.
 
Who is West Georgia?
  • VSU travels to West Georgia to face a Wolves team that has won three of its last five matches.
  • The Bulldogs sit with 15-10 record overall and 9-2 in GSC play.
  • VSU and UWG have faced each other one already this season, with the Wolves sweeping the Blazers in three sets.
  • Freshman Tierra White leads UWG in kills (320) and K/Set (3.60).
  • The Wolves are led defensively by sophomore Emilee Harris (307 digs) and White (101 blocks).  
 
What have the Blazers done recently?
  • The Blazers are looking to break an eight-game losing streak.
  • Senior Kayla Widera continues her dominant season with 108 blocks.
  • Senior Dariah Poweel leads the team in kills with 280.
  • Junior Tammy Reyes Perez leads VSU in assists (729).
  • VSU holds a 11-16 record, with a 3-8 record in GSC play.
