Blazers fall in Opening Round of GSC Tournament, 3-1

The Basics:
Score: Valdosta State 1, Auburn Montgomery 3 (12-25, 21-25, 25-23, 11-25)
Records: Valdosta State: 10-6 (2-1 GSC), West Georgia 7-6 (1-2)
 
THE LEAD: The Valdosta State Blazers volleyball team dropped its first round matchup of the GSC tournament on Friday to Auburn Montgomery. The Blazers fell to the Warhawks, three sets to one.
First Set:
  • Only eight kills hurt the Blazers early, as the Warhawks took the first set.
  • VSU had a .133 hitting percentage in the first set.
  • AUM used multiple runs to over come a late rally from the Blazers.
Second Set:
  • VSU improved in the second set with a.205 hitting percentage and 11 kills.
  • AUM rallied to take a 17-13 lead.
  • The Warhawks held off another late rally from VSU, to take the second set.
 
Third Set:
  • AUM jumped out to a quick 4-2 lead.
  • VSU battled back, using a 7-5 run to take a 9-8 lead.
  • Both team traded scores, as VSU took a 16-14 lead.
  • After a late rally from the Warhawks, VSU used a .275 hitting percentage to take the set.
Fourth Set:
  • AUM used a .297 hitting percentage to take the final set.
  • The Blazers were hurt by nine errors.
  • VSU hit -.072 for the set.
  • AUM used a 9-0 run to finish off VSU and advance to the next round.
 
Inside the Numbers:
  • VSU committed 18 errors, with a match-high nine in the final set.
  • The Blazers finished with 38 kills and a .132 hitting percentage
  • Sophomore Jessie Mooney impressed with a double-double (10 kills and 15 digs).
  • Senior Kayla Widera tallied seven kills and two blocks in her final game for VSU
  • Senior Dariah Powell accounted for a double-double with 10 kills and 19 digs.
