VALDOSTA, Ga.- The Valdosta State volleyball team goes back on the road this week, as they travel to Hoover, AL for the Gulf South Conference and Sunshine State Conference Crossover Tournament. Eckerd College will be the first opponent as the Blazers will face the Tritons Friday afternoon at 12:15 p.m. Later that evening, VSU plays Palm Beach Atlantic at 8 p.m. On Saturday, VSU finishes tournament play against Lynn University, as the Blazers and Fighting Knights square off at 2:30 PM.
 
Who is Eckerd College?

• Currently, the Tritons sport a 11-5 record overall and a 4-4 record in Sunshine State Conference play.
• Eckerd College is 2-3 in its last five matches.
• The Blazers and Tritons have faced five common opponents, Francis Marion, Converse, UNC Pembroke, Florida Tech and Nova Southeastern, with VSU going 5-0 against those schools and Eckerd going 4-1.
• Sophomore outside hitter Asya Harris leads the Tritons in kills (185) and K/set (3.19).
• Junior Luana Rezende (220 digs) and sophomore Rachel Wisian (52 blocks) lead the Tritons defensively.

Who is Palm Beach Atlantic?

• VSU is set to face a team that has won its last three matches.
• The Sailfish hold a 9-7 record overall and are 4-4 in SSC play.
• VSU and PBA have faced three common opponents in Nova Southeastern, Tampa and Florida Tech; PBA  is 2-1 against those schools.
• Freshman outside hitter Sam Wolf leads PBA in kills (207) and K/Set (3.96).
• The Sailfish are led defensively by junior Lily Turner (239 digs) and freshman Anna Gregerson (39 blocks).

 
Who is Lynn University?

• The Blazers face a Lynn University team that boasts a 13-3 record overall and a 6-2 record in SSC play.
• The Fighting Knights are currently riding a two-game win streak.
• VSU and Lynn have faced three common opponents: Mississippi College, Nova Southeastern and Tampa.
• Junior outside hitter Sonja Udovic leads Lynn in kills (198) and K/set (3.36)
• Udovic (204 digs) and junior Lauren Odom (60 blocks) lead the Fighting Knights defensively.
• These two teams faced off in 2018 , with Lynn defeating VSU three sets to one.

 
What have the Blazers done recently?

• The Blazers are looking to right the ship after dropping four of their last five matches.
• Senior Kayla Widera continues her dominant season, leading the conference in blocks with 88.
• Sophomore Jessie Mooney leads the team in kills at 170.
• Junior Tammy Reyes Perez leads VSU in assists (500) and service aces (14).
• VSU holds a 11-9 record, with a 3-4 record in GSC play.
• The Blazers are second in the Gulf South Conference in blocks (164.5) and are fourth in digs (1189).
