VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's basketball team looks to get back on the winning track as it travels to The Magnolia State for a pair of Gulf South Conference games this week. VSU visits Mississippi College on Thursday beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET and Saturday at Delta State at 3 p.m. ET.

VSU enters with a 9-5 record overall and a 3-3 mark in the Gulf South Conference. Union and Lee both lead the conference standings with a 5-1 record, followed by five teams each with a 4-2 mark. VSU and Alabama Huntsville each are 3-3. Mississippi College is 5-6 overall and 1-4 in league play, while Delta State is 9-4 and 4-2 in conference play.
The Lady Blazers are coming off a disappointing 67-54 home loss to West Alabama on Saturday after a 68-58 home win over West Florida last Thursday. Against West Alabama, VSU shot just 31.1 percent for the game on 19 of 61, while going 6 of 25 from beyond the arc and 10 of 12 from the line. Maddy Corazza, but a 2 for 13 shooting four quarter doomed the team as UWA outscored the Lady Blazers 14-7 in the final frame for the 13-point win.

Sonya Franklin at 10.6 points per game, leading three players in double figures. Franklin is 58 of 122 from the field for a .475 clip, while she is 26 of 42 from the line (.619). She is tied for second on the team in rebounding at 4.9 per contest, while ranking second on the team in assists with 34 and second in steals with 21. Sophomore
Kayla Bonilla is second in scoring at 10.5 points per game, while she is 48 of 131 from the field (.366) and is tied for second in made triples with 11. Bonilla is a team-best 40 of 53 from the line (.755), while leading the team with 39 assists and 22 steals. Senior
Crystal Townsend is third in scoring at 10.2 points per game and leads the team in rebounding at 7.7 per game. She is 51 of 119 from the field (.429), while draining 11 triples and is 30 of 41 from the line (.732).
As a team, the Lady Blazers are shooting .375 from the field on 320 of 853, while going 72 of 246 (.293) from beyond the arc and 184 of 293 (.628) from the line. VSU is averaging 42.9 rebounds per game and scoring 64 points per contest. Conversely, the opposition is shooting .388 on 294 of 758 from the field, while going 73 of 254 (.287) from beyond the arc and 147 of 227 from the line (.648). Mississippi College lost its last time out with a 73-56 road setback at West Georgia last Saturday and had its road game at Shorter (Monday) postponed. For the season, Zariah Matthews leads the team averaging 10.4 points per game. She is 34 of 84 from the field (.405) and a team-best 43 of 53 from the line (.811). She has 26 assists and a team-high 19 steals. Coco Hobson leads the team in made field goals with 39, while ranking second in made triples with six and second in made free throws with 23. She leads the team in rebounding at 6.9 per game. Lindsey Vaughn leads the team with 11 triples in 22 attempts.
As a team, the Choctaws are shooting .411 from the field on 248 of 604, while holding teams to a .380 clip on 252 of 663. MC has drained 34 triples for a .243 average in 140 attempts, while allowing 67 triples. Quantesha Patterson is second in scoring at 11.3 points per game as she is 50 of 76 from the field for a team-best .658 average. Patterson is second in rebounding at 6.9 per game and has a team-high 11 blocks on the season. Alondrea Rush is third in scoring at 10.5 points per game and has 30 triples in 73 attempts to lead the team from range. Rush leads the team with 33 assists and is second in steals with 24.
For the season, DSU is shooting .416 on 323 of 777, while going 44 of 133 from downtown (.331) and 159 of 224 from the line for a .710 clip. DSU is averaging 39.2 rebounds per game and 65.3 points per game. Conversely, teams are shooting .390 against DSU, while draining 64 of 235 triples (.272) and pulling down 34.9 rebounds per game and averaging 61.0 points per game.
