THE LEAD: Following a thrilling 1-0, overtime victory Friday, the Valdosta State women's soccer team went to extra time Sunday, but fell 3-2 on a goal from West Alabama's TeMia Pride in the 94
thminute. Pride had two goals in the match for the Tigers as she scored the tying goal and winner.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- UWA scored the first goal 25:43 into the match as Ellie McKenzie scored her first goal of the season.
- Not ten minutes later, VSU scored the equalizer as junior Ashley Lewis scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season off an assist from freshman Kyleigh Reedy as the game was 1-1 at half.
- VSU took a 2-1 lead as sophomore Lexie Hall scored on a penalty kick for her first score of the season at the 56:41 mark.
- At the 70:20 mark, Pride tied the game with an assist from McKenzie as both teams had great looks down the stretch, but were unable to convert.
- UWA started the winning goal attack with a shot and save from Anele Komani and a save from VSU sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Embler.
- Pride was there to clean up the mess for the goal and the winner.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- For the match, VSU had 16 shots with nine on frame, along with three corner kicks.
- UWA had 23 shots with 12 on frame and five corner kicks.
- The Blazers made nine saves, while UWA had seven stops.
- Lewis had six shots with three on frame and a goal to lead VSU, while Pride had seven shots and five on goal with two scores.
