VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valodsta State volleyball team returns home after two-straight weeks on the road, beginning a five-match home stand Friday evening against Mississippi College at The Complex.  VSU and the Choctaws battle at 5 p.m., and the Blazers conclude the weekend with a 2 p.m. match against West Alabama on Saturday.

VSU returns home after going 1-3 on its four-match road trip.  The Blazers are 6-11 overall and 2-3 in conference play.  The Blazers won 3-1 at Auburn Montgomery last weekend as the team battled back from first set loss for the win.  Freshman 
Jessie Mooney tallied a double-double with 15 kills and 11 digs, while junior 
Dariah Powell has 10 kills and 16 digs.  
 
For the season, the Blazers are hitting .164 with 673 kills (11.0/set), 336 errors and 2052 swings. VSU has 650 assists with 108 aces on the season.  The team has 919 digs with 95.5 total blocks and 33 solo rejections.  
 
Individually, senior 
Chloe' Chubilleau leads the team with 170 kills (2.79/set), while she is hitting .142 on the year in 508 swings.  She has a team-high 25 aces, 145 digs for second on the team and 11 total blocks. Mooney is second on the team in kills with 140 (2.33/set), while she is hitting .164 for the year on 428 swings. Mooney has 95 digs for fifth on the team and has 12 total blocks.  
 
Junior 
Kayla Widera is third on the team in kills with 100 (1.64/set) in 288 swings for a .181 average. She has 13 aces and leads the team with 58 total blocks and 17 solo rejections.  Freshman 
Aurora Nero leads the team with 242 digs for 3.97 per set. Sophomore Tammy Reyez-Perez leads the team with 572 assists (9.38/set) to lead the team.
 
Nationally speaking, the Blazers are second in the GSC and 26
thnationally in aces with 108, while Reyes-Perez leads the GSC with 572 assists for 35
thnationally.  Chubilleau is second in the league in aces with 25 and 37
thnationally. Widera is fifth in the league in total blocks with 58 for 55
thnationally, while Nero is fifth in the league in digs with 242.  
 
Mississippi College enters the week with a 7-9 record overall and a 1-4 mark in the GSC.  The Choctaws have dropped their last two matches with a five-set loss to Union at home and a 3-0 loss to Christian Brothers. Prior to the two matches last week, MC downed Division I Mississippi Valley State 3-0 on Sept. 18.  
 
The. Choctaws have 662 kills (11/8/set) for a .170 average this season.  MC has 618 assists, 81 aces, 837 digs and 78 blocks.  Mississippi College won its first conference match of the season on Sept. 15, 2018, for the first league win since Oct. 7, 2017.   VSU has won all seven meetings in the series between the two teams.  
 
West Alabama enters with an 11-4 record overall and a 4-1 mark in the GSC.  UWA downed Division I Jackson State earlier this week, 3-2, as the Tigers roared back to win the fourth set 25-21 and dominated the decisive set, 15-5 for the upset win.  UWA will battle West Georgia in Carrollton, Ga., prior to heading South to face the Blazers.  
 
VSU continues at home next weekend with Christian Brothers and Union visiting on Oct. 5 and Oct. 6, respectively, while VSU will dip out of conference play to host Georgia College Oct. 9 to conclude the home stand.
