Volleyball Heads to AUM and #15 West Florida Friday and Saturday

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State volleyball team concludes a four-game road trip at Auburn Montgomery and West Florida this weekend. The Blazers face AUM Friday at 7 p.m. ET, followed by a trip to UWF Saturday at 3 p.m. ET.

The Blazers dropped a pair of matches last weekend at Lee and at West Georgia.  VSU has dropped five of its last six matches after winning three-straight.  VSU enters with a 5-10 record overall and a 1-2 mark in Gulf South Conference play.  
 
VSU is hitting .160 for the season in 15 matches, while recording 577 kills for 10.6 per set, along with 292 errors in 1785 attempts.  The Blazers have 102 aces with 112 service errors for an .898 percentage. VSU has 790 digs with 558 assists and 77 total blocks, including 29 solo rejections.  The opposition is hitting .207 with 627 kills in 1784 attempts and 258 errors.  The opponents have 89 aces with 95 blocks (22 solo), 805 digs and 588 assists.  
 
The Blazers are led by senior Chloe' Chubilleau who leads the team with 152 kills and is hitting .158 on 442 swings.  She has 21 aces to lead the team, along with 130 digs.  Chubilleau has four double-doubles on the year.  Second on the team in kills is freshman Jessie Mooney with 119 as she has 361 swings for a .172 average.  Mooney has 11 aces and a .936 serve percentage for the best on the team. She has 77 digs with nine total blocks and one solo rejection.  
 
Junior Kayla Widera leads the team with 48 total blocks and 16 solo.  She is hitting .164 with 87 kills and 13 aces.  Senior Lindsay Robinson is hitting .190 with 76 kills and 15 total blocks, while sophomore Tammy Reyes-Perez leads the team with 493 assists on the season.  She has 110 digs with 11 total blocks.
 
AUM is 8-5 overall and 0-3 in GSC play.  The Warhawks are a perfect 3-0 at home this season, but have dropped their last three matches.  Sommer Rhea leads the team with 111 kills and Brianna Garvin has a team-high attack percentage of .365.  Garvin is second in kills with 11, while Jaylyn Felder and Nyah Whittlesey each have 59 kills for third.  Carly Smart leads the team with 260 assists and has 51 kills, while freshman Emily Ward leads the team in digs with 122.  
 
West Florida, ranked No. 15 in the latest AVCA Top 25, enters with a 10-4 record and a 2-1 mark in the GSC.  The Argonauts will host West Georgia Friday, before entertaining the Blazers Saturday. 
 
UWF begins its next six matches at home following wins over Mississippi College and West Alabama and a loss to Alabama Huntsville last week.  Argos' freshman Taylor Vaneekeren was named GSC Freshman of the Week.  She has 76 assists and hit .333 with 24 digs, four blocks and two aces.  The Argos lead the GSC in assists at 12.59 per set and a total of 705 assists in 56 sets. Vaneekeren averages 5.04 assists per et and two digs per set. 
 
Following the matches, VSU returns home for five-straight beginning Sept. 28 at 5 p.m. versus Mississippi College at The Complex.
