THE LEAD: Coming off a dominating win in the Gulf South Conference opener on Tuesday, the Valdosta State volleyball team couldn't keep the momentum going in a 3-0 loss at Lee University Friday evening. VSU sophomore Tammy Reyes-Perez notched her fourth double-double of the season with 18 assists and 11 digs to lead the Blazers.
Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In a tight first set, with both teams looking for the early advantage, Reyes-Perez had three-straight serves for a 10-9 VSU lead, but back-to-back errors on the Blazers gave the lead back to Lee at 14-12.Â
- Junior Kayla Widera came up with a kill, pulling VSU within 15-14, but Lee answered right back.
- Later in the set, senior Chloe' Chubilleau gave VSU the lead at 20-19 and Widera at 22-21, but back-to-back kills from Lee, followed by a timeout by the Blazers at 23-22 in favor of Lee.
- Out of the timeout, VSU tied the set on an error by the Flames, but a VSU error and a kill by Lee ended the set, 25-23.
- In the second set, Lee scored 10 of the first 13 points and led 19-9. Lee took the second set 25-10 and again scored 10 of the first 13 points in the third set en route to the 25-18 win.
