NO. 7 VALDOSTA STATE BLAZERS
  • THE POSTSEASON RETURN - The Lady Blazers make their second consecutive appearance in the NCAA South Regional Tournament under the leadership of Head Coach Carley Kuhns. Last year, Valdosta State entered the tournament as the Gulf South Conference champions and were upset by Benedict in the opening round.
  • HONORS ABOUND - Madi Mitchell and Kenya Samone' Dixon teamed up for postseason honors for the second consecutive season after earning All-Gulf South Conference recognition at the conclusion of the 2017-18 regular season schedule. Mitchell was voted on by coaches throughout the Gulf South Conference as a First Team honoree, and Samone' Dixon netted Second Team honors. Both are nominees for All-South Region recognition, which will be announced in the days ahead.
  • ELITE STATUS - Senior Madi Mitchell connected on a short baseline jumper in the second quarter of VSU's win over Shorter in January to become the newest member of the Lady Blazer basketball 1,000-point club. The achievement made Mitchell just the 26th Lady Blazer in VSU women's basketball history to reach the milestone. Mitchell finished the regular season ranked third in the Gulf South Conference in scoring with an average of 18.0 points per game. Mitchell has scored 20-plus points in nine games this year, including VSU's regular season finale win over UWF, where she posted 25. She also ranks third in the league with an average of 8.8 rebounds per game.

NO. 2 FLORIDA SOUTHERN MOCS
  • SERIES HISTORY - Valdosta State and Florida Southern meet for the first time since November 20, 2014, when the Lady Blazers toppled the Mocs 62-53 at The Complex in Valdosta, Ga. Between the two teams, FSC senior Jensen Blassage, who was a freshman at the time, is the only remaining player that competed in that matchup. She logged 11 minutes in the game and pulled down two rebounds. The two teams will square off for the 16th time in program history, with Valdosta State holding a 12-3 edge in the all-time series.
  • ON A ROLL - The Mocs will enter the NCAA Regional as the reigning Sunshine State Conference Champions after using a 35-point second quarter to topple Embry-Riddle for their 11th conference championship in program history. Florida Southern ripped off 15 straight wins before falling to Embry-Riddle in their regular season finale. The Mocs have won 18 of their last 19 games.
  • BEST OF THE BEST - Florida Southern reeled in a slew of postseason honors at the end of the regular season. Head Coach Betsy Harris was named the SSC Coach of the Year for the second time in her career. In addition, Anja Fuchs-Robetin was named as the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year after  a season in which she ranked third in the league in scoring (18.3 points per game) and second in rebounds (9.5 rebounds per game). On February 7th against Rollins, the senior posted the program's first triple-double in over 20 years.
