VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State baseball team was unable to overcome a strong offensive day for the Lee Flames, resulting in a pair of Gulf South Conference losses (6-1, 10-5) at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park.
Valdosta State produced six hits in the opening game, but were never able to overcome a three-run first by the Flames. The VSU defense committed five errors in the game, which led to three unearned runs, and Lee's Jordan Howard and Miguel Pimentel represented the Flames well in the number two and three lineup positions with five of the team's eight hits.
After a critical defensive miscue in the opening frame of game two, the Flames got a timely three-run homer from Spencer Mossburg for three unearned runs, which put VSU starter Logan Dubbe in a 3-0 hole from the outset.
The Flames added three more runs on four hits in the top of the second inning, which overshadowed four runs scored by the Blazers in the third. The Blazers' big inning came by way of four hits and included RBI's by O'Kevius Conway, Luke Suchon, and Nick Koslowski.
Valdosta State's only other run came when Kendall Herron, who went 3-for-4 in the game, scored on a Luke Suchon single up the middle in the fifth. The five runs weren't enough to negate Lee's 10-runs, six of which were unearned.
The Blazers fell to 12-20 on the year and dropped to 6-12 in conference play, while the flames improved to 19-15 on the year and bumped their GSC record to 12-6.
Valdosta State will continue their season with a non-conference matchup at Flagler on Tuesday, April 3 at 5:00 p.m.
