VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State baseball team fell victim to an offensive surge by Lee in Friday night's Gulf South Conference baseball matchup, as the Blazers suffered a seven-inning 10-0 loss at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park.
The Flames set the tone in the top half of the first inning with four runs on three walks, a hit batsman, and a pair of late-inning singles. The surge put Lee out in front 4-0, and the Flames added on in the top of the second with two runs on two more hits for a 6-0 lead.
Three more runs on three hits in the fourth, and one final run in the fifth gave the Flames enough to end the contest prematurely, as Lee pitcher Wes Albert held the Blazers to just three hits in 6.2 innings of work, before turning the game over to Jay Prior, who closed out the bottom of the seventh.
The Blazers fell to 12-18 on the year overall and 6-10 against league opponents. Lee improved to 17-15 overall and lifted their GSC record to 10-6.
Hunter Jones fell to 2-2 on the season with the loss on the hill, while Lee's Albert improved to an even 2-2 with the abbreviated win.
Valdosta State will return to action on Saturday with a doubleheader finale, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Billy Grant Field at Tommy Thomas Park.
