Blazers Fall Twice in Saturday Doubleheader vs. UAH

VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State softball team took the Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville down to the wire in an 11-8 game one loss, before UAH came alive in game two to spoil VSU's day with a 10-0 victory at Steel's Diamond at Blazer Park on Saturday.

The Blazers racked up 11 hits in game one, with Jessica Mohl, Lacey Crandall, and Tana McDaniel each accounting for multiple hits in the game. UAH fired back, however, with 17 hits of their own, including five in a fifth inning that saw the Chargers single four times before a three run blast by Akles that put Huntsville on top for good.

Avery Lamb suffered her first loss of the season in the contest to fall to 5-1, while Hayes picked up her first win of the 2017 season after coming on in the fourth and holding VSU to just four hits.

In game two, it was all Chargers. Alabama-Huntsville got to Kathryn Carter (5-2) for 12 hits and 10 runs, while the Blazers were only able to break through for one hit against Murphy, UAH's go-to pitcher, who improved to 11-4 on the year with the win.

The Blazers will aim to put Saturday behind them and turn their attention to Sunday's series finale, where VSU will aim to salvage the series. First pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m. at Steel's Diamond, and live coverage can be found via links at www.vstateblazers.com.
