VALDOSTA, Ga. – The Valdosta State women's basketball team returns to non-conference action as it hosts Tampa Tuesday evening, before heading on the road for a Thursday matchup at Paine in Augusta, Ga. The Lady Blazers and Spartans tip Tuesday at 6 p.m. in The Complex.

VSU is coming off a 67-53 win over Christian Brothers on Saturday to improve to 3-3 on the year and 1-1 in Gulf South Conference play. The Lady Blazers were led by 15 points from senior
Maddy Corazza on 7 of 10 from the field and one triple, leading three players in double figures. Seniors
Crystal Townsend and
Jazmyn McIntosh each had seven rebounds, while Townsend had 12 points and McIntosh added 11 points.
The Lady Blazers shot 40.3 percent for the game on 27 of 67, while going 5 of 17 from beyond the arc and 8 of 10 from the line. VSU dominated the glass to the tune of 48-26 and 23-9 on the offensive end, while also holding a big lead in points in the paint at 40-22 and 25-10 in second chance points.
For the season, sophomore
Kayla Bonilla leads the team averaging 12.0 points per game. She is 24 of 60 from the field (.400), while going 21 of 28 from the line (.750) to lead the team, along with three triples. She has 15 assists to lead the team and 10 steals. Townsend is second in scoring at 10.5 points per game on 25 of 52 from the floor (.481), while going 7 of 12 from beyond the arc for second on the team and 6 of 9 from the line. She leads the team averaging 8.2 rebounds per game.
As a team, the Lady Blazers are shooting .341 from the field on 129 of 378, while going 31 of 119 from beyond the arc (.261) and 75 of 131 from the line (.573). VSU is averaging 44.5 rebounds per game, while recording 51 assists, 90 turnovers, 14 blocks and 63 steals. The Lady Blazers are averaging 60.7 points per game.
The opposition is shooting .399 from the field (125-313), while draining 27 triples in 108 attempts (.250) and is 65 of 103 from the line (.631). VSU is allowing 35.3 rebounds per game, while the opponents have 64 assists, turned it over 115 times with 18 blocks and 36 steals. VSU is holding teams to 57.0 points per game.
Tampa enters with a 6-1 record overall and was ranked 24
thin the last D2SIDA Women's Top 25, while ranking fifth in the region top 25 this season by D2SIDA. The Spartans are 1-1 in Sunshine Conference play after a 55-48 loss at then No. 21 Florida Southern and a 69-56 win over Barry on Saturday.
The Spartans are led by Tyghter Staja who is averaging 14.3 points per game on 42 of 93 from the field. She is 5 of 14 from range and 11 of 15 from the line. She is second in rebounding at 9.1 per game. Second on the team in scoring is Nagy Dori at 11.3 points per game as she is averaging a double-double, leading the team in rebounding at 10.3 per game. Nagy is 27 of 54 from the field, while going 25 of 34 from the line to lead the team. Emily Eshoo is third in scoring at 11.1 points per game on 26 of 55 from the field, while going 9 of 23 from beyond the arc and 17 of 21 from the line.

Tampa won last season's meeting 59-54 in Tampa, as VSU gave a late push as Tampa led by as many as 18 in the third quarter, but VSU came roaring back to pull within 51-50 with a minute left. One key stat in the game was Tampa shot 28 free throws, while the Lady Blazers shot 10.
VSU then heads on the road at Paine College on Thursday for a 6 p.m. tip. Paine is 0-7 on the year.
