No. 5 Blazers Return to Gulf South Conference Play on the Road

VALDOSTA, Ga. – The No. 5 Valdosta State men's basketball team returns to Gulf South Conference play with a pair of games at Lee University and at Alabama Huntsville Saturday and Monday, respectively.  The Blazers are 9-0 on the year and 2-0 in Gulf South Conference play. 
 
Due to the national championship football game at McKinney ISD Stadium in McKinney, Texas, there will be no audio broadcast on 92.1 FM of the basketball games this weekend.  Fans can find links to live stats, audio/video streaming, ticket information and more on the men's basketball schedule page on vstateblazers.com. VSU and Lee battle at 4 p.m. Saturday, before heading to Alabama Huntsville for an 8:30 p.m. ET tip on Monday.
 
The Blazers are coming off a thrilling 111-98 win over Fort Valley State Monday.  In the game, the Blazers saw senior Beau Justice score a career-high and school-record 47 points, while breaking the Gulf South Conference record for triples made in a game, going 12 of 22 from beyond the arc.  He finished the game a career-high 16 of 28 from the field, while going 3 of 5 from the line with six assists, no turnovers and two steals.  Justice led four players in double figures in the game as VSU recorded its third game over 100 points this season.  VSU went 42 of 79 from the field for 53.2 percent, while going a season-high 19 of 45 from beyond the arc and 8 of 12 from the line. 
 
For the season, the Blazers are shooting .514 from the field on 320 of 622 from the field, 112 of 260 from beyond the arc (.431) and 137 of 185 from the line.   The Blazers are averaging 37.3 rebounds per game and 98.8 points per game.  Individually, the Blazers are led by Justice at 24.8 points per game on 71 of 150 from the field for a .513 average leading five players in double figures.  He is 31 of 70 from range (.443) and a team-best .826 from the line.  Justice has 38 assists, nine turnovers and 11 steals.  Senior Winston Morgan is second in scoring at 14.7, while leading the team in triples at 35 of 78 for a .449 average.  Junior Darrell Jones is third in scoring at 13.7 and leads the team at 7.4 rebounds per game.
 
Lee enters at 4-5 on the year and 2-0 in league play.  The Flames have won three-straight after starting 1-5.  VSU, Lee, West Georgia and West Alabama all are 2-0 in conference play so far.  Alabama Huntsville is 1-1 in league play and 6-2 overall.  The Chargers have won their last two games and will host West Florida before VSU visits on Monday.
