THE LEAD – Valdosta State junior Riley Tennant scored just 4:03 into the contest as VSU posted a 2-0 victory at Shorter Thursday evening to run its winning streak to four matches.  Junior Ashley Lewis scored her team-leading 13thgoal of the season in the second half for the insurance score.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Later, Shorter had a great look on a strike from Bianca Martins Da Si, but VSU came up with the team save and then Gamarra's shot off the corner sailed wide.
  • The game remained 1-0 at half.
  • Both teams had good looks through the first part of the second half until Lewis scored at the 78:47 mark off an assist from senior Carley Montgomery for a 2-0 lead.
  • The Hawks had two corners, through the remaining 12 minutes, but were unable to get a shot.
