Riley Tennant scored just 4:03 into the contest as VSU posted a 2-0 victory at Shorter Thursday evening to run its winning streak to four matches. Junior
Ashley Lewis scored her team-leading 13
thgoal of the season in the second half for the insurance score.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Following a save from VSU sophomore goalkeeper Caroline Embler, Tennant scored the first goal off an assist from senior Mallory McDaniel for a 1-0 lead as it was McDaniel's team-leading sixth assist of the season 4:03 into the contest.
- VSU had three great looks on a blocked shot from McDaniel, shots wide of the frame from Lewis and McDaniel later in the half.
- The Hawks had a great chance on a corner as Fiorella Gamarra fired a shot off the corner, but Embler made her second save of the half at the 35:26 mark.
- Later, Shorter had a great look on a strike from Bianca Martins Da Si, but VSU came up with the team save and then Gamarra's shot off the corner sailed wide.
- The game remained 1-0 at half.
- Both teams had good looks through the first part of the second half until Lewis scored at the 78:47 mark off an assist from senior Carley Montgomery for a 2-0 lead.
- The Hawks had two corners, through the remaining 12 minutes, but were unable to get a shot.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- For the first half both teams had five shots, while Embler made three saves and Shorter had two corners.
- For the match, VSU had 11 shots with four on frame, while Shorter had nine shots with six on goal.
- Embler made six saves in the match for her fifth clean sheet of the season and improved to 8-5 on the year.
- Lewis had five shots and the one goal, while Tennant had two shots, both on net and the game winner.
