THE LEAD: The Valdosta State women's soccer team dropped its regular season finale Saturday evening with a 5-0 loss at Lee. VSU will travel to West Alabama for the 4/5 matchup in the first round of the Gulf South Conference Championship Tuesday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lee scored three goals in the first half and the first one just 7:17 in as Mia Hollingsworth scored her 12th goal of the season with an assist from Lauren Peters.
- The Flames added the second goal of the first half as Kelsey Yoder scored on a penalty kick at the 17:51 mark.
- Peters scored the third goal of the half at the 27:56 mark with an assist from Riley Engels off a cross to Peters for the header.
- In the second half, Yoder scored her second goal of the match from the top of the 18 at the 62:17 mark.
- Later, Avery Engels scored off an assist from Devin Healy for a 5-0 score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- The Blazers had 13 shots with six on frame for the match, while Lee had 17 shots and 10 on frame.
- VSU had five saves, while Lee had six and both teams had two corner kicks a piece.
- Blazer junior Riley Tennant had two shots as did junior Ashley Lewis.
- Sophomore Caroline Embler and freshman Samantha Blanford each split time in goal for the Blazers as both logged 45 minutes each.
- The 5-0 loss was the worst loss of the season for the Blazers and the most goals allowed since Nov .3, 2017, in the semifinal of the GSC Championship in a 5-1 loss to Lee.

- VSU will travel to Livingston, Ala., to battle West Alabama Tuesday at a time to be determined in the GSC Championship quarterfinal.
