Ashley Lewis scored her sixth game winning goal of the season and it was a special one as she broke the school single-season goals record and the single-season points record in a 3-1 victory over Union Friday evening at the Soccer Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Off a bad clearance by the Blazers leading to a corner kick for the Bulldogs Tiffany Linser took the corner kick and found Anna Barkley on the back post for a 1-0 lead at the 15:11 mark of the first half.
- VSU had six shots in first 15 minutes with two from senior Suvi Savolainen, but both sailed high.
- A foul on the Bulldogs in the box gave VSU a penalty kick as sophomore Paige Taylor converted the PK for a 1-1 score at the 23:23 mark. It was her first goal of her career.
- Off a foul just outside the box, VSU freshman Kyleigh Reedy was on the receiving end of the kick and scored with a great header, but offsides was called on the Blazers with six minutes left in the first half negating the score.
- Senior Mallory McDaniel two great looks, one was saved by a field player for the Bulldogs and the other was blocked early in the second half.
- In transition, Union's Emie Peterson had a good look, but sophomore Caroline Embler was up to the task for the save.
- The Blazers had another great look, thwarted by another team save from the Bulldogs.
- Off a corner kick from senior Carley Montgomery, Lewis found the back of the net for her 12th score of the season and sixth assist for Montgomery.
- Moments later, junior Riley Tennant beat the Union keeper off an assist from Haille Paterson and a 3-1 lead at the 56:33 mark.
