THE LEAD: Behind two goals from juniors
Ashley Lewis and
Riley Tennant, the Valdosta State women's soccer team posted a 4-0 road victory at Delta State Tuesday afternoon. Tennant also had an assist in the match, while senior
Mallory McDaniel added two assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- VSU jumped out early with a goal from Lewis, her team-leading 10thof the season, at the 13:38 mark on a shot from the right side edge of the box off an assist from freshman Kaelyn Jones.
- Just 1:14 later, Tennant tallied her first score on a header off the cross from McDaniel for a 2-0 lead.
- The match remained 2-0 at halftime as VSU tallied six shots in the first half, while DSU had three shots.
- Tennant struck again for her second goal of the match in the 55thminute as she shot from 20 out on the right to the left corner as McDaniel assisted again for a 3-0 lead.
- In the 63rdminute, Lewi put up her 11thscore of the season off the cross from Tennant to the right corner for a 4-0 lead.
- VSU played both sophomore Caroline Embler and freshman Samantha Blanford between the pipes as Embler went 67:12 minutes with three saves and Blanford went 22:48 with two stops.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- VSU tallied 12 shots in the match with six on frame, while DSU had eight shots and five on goal.
- The Blazers had five saves in the match, while the Statesmen tallied two stops.
- The win puts VSU in a tie for fourth in the league standings with Christian Brothers.

- The Blazers return home for Senior Weekend as they will host Union at 7 p.m. on Friday at the Soccer Complex and then will face Christian Brothers for Senior Day Sunday at 1 p.m.
