VALDOSTA STATE LADY BLAZERS (9-4, 3-2 GSC)
  • ELITE STATUS - Senior Madi Mitchell connected on a short baseline jumper in the second quarter of Thursday night's win over Shorter to become the newest member of the Lady Blazer basketball 1,000-point club. The achievement made Mitchell just the 26th Lady Blazer in VSU women's basketball history to reach the milestone. Mitchell currently ranks sixth in the Gulf South Conference in scoring with an average of 15.9 points per game. She also ranks fifth in the league in rebounding with an average of 8.5 per game.
  • HOME SWEET HOME - The Lady Blazers are excited to return to the friendly confines of The Complex for the first time in 2018. Valdosta State has seen tremendous success on their home floor this season with a perfect 6-0 record. At home, the Lady Blazers are averaging 80.7 points per game with a 43.0 field goal percentage. In contrast, VSU is averaging 57.6 points on the road with a shooting percentage of 33.9. The last two matchups at The Complex were Gulf South Conference wins against Montevallo and West Alabama.
  • STRONG AT THE STRIPE - Valdosta State has seen tremendous success at the free throw line so far this season. With a team shooting percentage of 76.0 percent, the Lady Blazers currently lead the league in free throw shooting. Furthermore, VSU is ranked 16th in the nation in the same category. Nine of the 12 players who have earned minutes for VSU this season are shooting above 70 percent at the free throw line, with Kia Perry and Crystal Townsend leading the way individually with percentages of 86.4 and 82.4, respectively. Kenya Samone' Dixon is also above the 80 percent mark at 82.1 percent.

DELTA STATE LADY STATESMEN (5-7, 3-3 GSC)
  • BIG D - The Lady Statesmen represent the top defensive team in the GSC when measured by points allowed per game. On average, Delta State has held opponents to just 55.8 points per game.
  • THORN IN THE SIDE - The rivalry between the Lady Blazers and the Lady Statesmen is longstanding, though historically, VSU has struggled against the league opponent. Sunday's matchup marks the 48th all-time between the two programs, with DSU holding a 38-9 series advantage. Despite the lopsided all-time record in favor of Delta State, Carley Kuhns solved DSU in her first season at the helm last year and claimed wins in each of three matchups between the two squads. The three victories included a 66-41 dismantling of the Lady Statesmen in the quarterfinal round of the Gulf South Conference tournament.
  • RUSH HOUR - Alondrea Rush has been the primary threat for the Lady Statesmen throughout the 2017-18 season. She leads the team with an average of 15.1 points per game, which also places the junior guard 8th overall among all Gulf South Conference scorers.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE LADY CHOCTAWS (5-8, 1-6 GSC)
  • TRIPLE THREAT - The Lady Choctaws currently have three players among the league's top 25 scorers, each with double digit figure averages in points scored per game. Kelley Allen leads the pack with an average 13.9 points per game, while Ieisha Lacey and Lauran Sheriff fall in with 11.9 and 10.8 averages, respectively.
  • CONFERENCE WOES - Mississippi College has won five games out of 13 matchups so far in 2017-18, but only one of those wins was against a GSC opponent, which came on their home floor in an 80-76 victory over West Alabama on December 9th. The Lady Choctaws will enter their upcoming road stint against West Florida and Valdosta State searching for their first win of the 2018 calendar year on the heels of recent home losses against North Alabama and Alabama-Huntsville.
  • SERIES HISTORY - Valdosta State will face Mississippi College for the 30th time in program history on Tuesday night. The Lady Blazers hold an 18-11 advantage over the Lady Choctaws, with wins in four of the last six matchups between the two teams.
