Huntsville, Ala. - The Valdosta State women's basketball team used a 25-point fourth quarter to come from behind and secure a 72-71 win over Gulf South Conference rival Alabama-Huntsville on Thursday night in Huntsville, Ala.
 
The Lady Blazers' late surge was led by freshman Kayla Bonilla, who picked a great night to have a career-best performance. With the help of a perfect 9-of-9 effort from the free throw line, Bonilla scored 20 points and aided the Lady Blazers to an impressive 94.7 (18-of-19) free-throw percentage in the contest. In the fourth quarter alone, the team hit 11-of-11 to help reclaim the lead and collect the victory.  
 
Four different Blazers put up double digits in the scoring column. Bonilla posted 16 of her 20 points in the second half to lead the way, while Mitchell added 15 and Taylor Buie joined Kenya Samone' Dixon for 12 points each.
 
The win was secured late in the fourth quarter with fourteen seconds remaining, when Buie drained a three from the right wing after an assist from Bonilla to give VSU the 72-70 lead over the Lady Chargers. The Lady Chargers answered back with a made free throw inside the final seven seconds, but it wasn't enough to take down the red and black.
 
With the win, the Lady Blazers moved to 14-6 on the season and 8-4 in GSC play. Alabama-Huntsville fell to 11-8, 5-7 GSC, respectively. The win marked VSU's third road win of the season.
 
Valdosta State will look to stay hot on the road this Saturday, January 27^th, as they take on the No. 20 North Alabama Lady Lions. The GSC matchup is slated for 2 p.m. EST in Florence, Ala. Live coverage will be available at www.vstateblazers.com.
