VALDOSTA, Ga. - The Valdosta State soccer team stayed perfect after opening up Gulf South Conference play with a 3-1 victory over Montevallo on Friday night at The VSU Soccer Complex in Valdosta, Ga.
The dynamic duo of
Taylor Snell and
Jordan Humbert scored in each of Valdosta State's first two matches, and Friday night was no different. After the Blazers allowed a first half goal to Allye Darnell in the 11th minute, Humbert used a pass from Snell to score and tie the match up at 1-1 just over 15 minutes later.
The tie carried over into the second half, before Snell quickly put the Blazers on top at the 52:44 mark with a nifty goal from the top of the box. The score marked Snell's third of the season, and the junior sealed the deal in the final minute of the contest after converting a Haille Patterson pass into yet another score.
Before Snell's final goal, the Falcons were awarded a penalty kick for a chance to tie the match in the 83rd minute. Senior keeper
Alyssa Curtis came through with a monster save, however, to hold UM at bay.
With the win, Valdosta State lifted their record to 3-0, 1-0 in GSC play. Meanwhile, the match marked Montevallo's first of the season and set the Falcons back to 0-1.
Next up for the Blazers, it's a trip to Huntsville, Ala., as conference play continues against the Chargers of Alabama-Huntsville on September 15th. The match is set for an 8:00 p.m. kickoff, and live coverage will be available at www.vstateblazers.com.
