HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Valdosta State soccer saw their red hot start come to an end in their first road Gulf South Conference match of the season, as the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers spread out two goals in each half to take down VSU 2-0.
With the loss, the Blazers dropped to 3-1 on the season and fell into a 1-1 split on their GSC mark. Meanwhile, the Chargers improved to 3-2 overall and upped their conference record to 2-1.
The game-winning goal came early for the Chargers, when Riley Ridgeway capitalized on a breakaway opportunity to connect for her second goal of the season. The score came just over seven minutes into the match and proved to be enough, thanks to a solid defensive effort by UAH.
The Blazers landed five corner kick opportunities and put pressure on the Chargers with two or more shots by four different players over the course of the match. UAH keeper Megan Buford was up to the task, however, and used three saves to help secure the shutout.
Valdosta State will get right back to it on Sunday, with another GSC road match against West Alabama in LIvingston, Ala. Look for live coverage links right here at www.vstateblazers.com.
