MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Blazer volleyball took care of business in Milledgeville, Ga. on Saturday afternoon to close out the Bobcat Classic with a 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-22) over Emmanuel.
"We got into a good rhythm after a slow start today, which allowed us to come away with a good win to close out the weekend," said Head Coach
Mike Swan after the win. "We're getting some great contributions from some of our newcomers, despite the fact that we are still feeling each other out at this point. We wanted to be 3-0 of course, but we'll take 2-1 on the road. Overall, it was a good weekend for us."
The newcomers mentioned by Coach Swan included
Katie McInnis, a junior transfer from Indian River Community College, who blasted 13 kills with just two errors for a .367 hitting percentage. In addition,
Chloe' Chubilleau and
Chelsea Chavers both picked up 10 digs on the defensive side.
Senior Tristyn Sells led the team with 34 attacks in the contest and converted 13 into kills for a .265 effort. Meanwhile
Sara Dandridge complemented 38 assists with an impressive defensive effort that included six blocks. As a team, Valdosta State posted ten total blocks, which helped limit Emmanuel to a .112 hitting percentage.
Valdosta State improved to 2-1 on the season with the win, while Emmanuel fell to 3-0.
The Blazers will return to action with another tournament next weekend in South Carolina, as VSU will compete in the USC Aiken Invitational. Valdosta State's next matchup will take place at 5:00 p.m. on September 8th.
