Valdosta State cleaned house in the All-GSC award department on Monday. Jeremiah Hill was named GSC Player of the Year and First Team All-GSC, while Saadiq Muhammad secured Second Team honors. The Blazers, who were picked to finish seventh in the GSC Preseason Poll, finished in first place and Head Coach Mike Helfer became just the fifth coach to ever win three GSC Coach of the Year honors.

The Blazers have moved up to No. 20 in the most recent release of the NABC polls. The ranking marks the highest in a season for Valdosta State since January of 2011, when the team spent one week in the polls at No. 24.

Head Coach Mike Helfer picked up the 400th win of his collegiate coaching career with a win over Delta State on January 19th. In addition, the veteran's double-overtime victory over Mississippi College on the road on February 2nd marked Helfer's 100th career GSC victory.

Tuesday's matchup marks the 75th all-time between North Alabama and Valdosta State. The Lions hold the advantage in the all-time series with 39 wins against 35 losses. The two teams last faced each other on February 18th, when the VSU's Josh Lemons hit a game-saving layup and added two free throws in the final six seconds of regulation to help the Blazers secure a 77-74 victory. VSU has won both matchups against the Lions this season.
