Volleyball Falls to Lee in Season Finale

VALDOSTA, Ga. The Valdosta State volleyball team suffered a tough loss in their season finale, as the Lee Flames picked up a 3-0 (25-7, 25-22, 25-21) win over the Blazers in Gulf South Conference action on Saturday afternoon at The Complex.

The first two sets were a letdown for Valdosta State, as the Flames rolled to a 25-7 win and followed up with a 25-22 win in set two. The Blazers ramped up the intensity in the third set and took a 20-18 lead late in the frame, but a 7-2 run down the stretch ultimately gave the Flames the victory.

The Blazers struggled to break through a strong defensive performance by the Lee Flames, which included 54 digs and eight blocks. Six different Lady Flames contributed to the blocking effort for Lee, and MaKayla Beebe led in the dig column with 11.

For the Blazers, Chloe Chubilleau served as the offensive leader with 10 kills and just four errors on 25 attempts. Katie McInnis added nine kills, and senior Sydney Chick led in the dig column with 16.

Both Chick and Tristyn Sells were recognized prior to the match as the two members of the 2017 senior class. Chick finished her career with over 1,000 digs, and Sells eclipsed the 1,000 career dig mark earlier this season.

The Flames improved to 19-9 on the season and 10-6 in conference play, while the Lady Blazers finished their season at 12-17 overall and 6-10 against league opponents.
