Soccer Wraps Up Perfect Weekend With 3-0 Win Over Shorter

ROME, Ga. - In their second match in as many days, the Valdosta State soccer team cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Shorter Hawks for a Gulf South Conference victory on Saturday night in Rome, Ga.

The win boosted the Blazers to an 8-3-1 record overall, 6-2-1 in GSC play. Shorter's loss dropped the Hawks to 1-9-1 overall and 0-8 against league opponents.

Valdosta State's defense delivered their second consecutive shutout, which set the stage for the Blazer attack. Mallory McDaniel answered the call first for the red and black, connecting for her first goal of the season in the 19th minute to give VSU their decisive score.

Later in the contest, Both Riley Tennant and Taylor Snell added a pair of insurance goals within five minutes of each other to put the Blazers on top for good with the 3-0 advantage. Tennant's goal marked the second of the weekend for the sophomore forward.

The Blazers controlled the contest from the outset, leaving little in doubt throughout its duration. In fact, VSU fired off 16 total shots and did not allow the Hawks a single shot on the evening.

The Blazers will see a quick turnaround this week, as Auburn-Montgomery comes to Titletown on Wednesday, October 11 for a 7:00 p.m. matchup. Full coverage of the match will be provided at www.vstateblazers.com.
