Weather Forces 1-1 Draw for VSU Soccer

MOBILE, Ala. The Valdosta State soccer team was forced to settle for a draw after inclement weather settled in during a 1-1 match against the Spring Hill Lady Badgers in Gulf South Conference action on Sunday afternoon in Mobile, Ala.

The Blazers struck first less than eight minutes into the match to take a 1-0 lead after Spring Hill's keeper Kayla Beaston turned away a Maggie VanHusan shot and allowed Riley Tennant to fire off a put-back attempt in for her first career collegiate goal.

Shortly thereafter, an extensive weather delay forced the teams to retreat to the locker room. Upon their return, it took just over six minutes for Sydney DeJohn to sneak one in from 15 yards out and knot the score up at 1-1.

Following a shortened halftime break, neither team was able to break through again before another weather delay concluded the match prematurely with 18:16 still left to play.

As a result, the Blazers moved to 0-6-2 on the season and 0-3-1 in GSC play, while the Lady Badgers slid to an identical record of 0-6-2 overall and 0-3-1 in conference action.

VSU returns to action on Friday September 30, for a home matchup against the visiting West Georgia Wolves. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start, and live coverage will be available right here at www.vstateblazers.com.
