VALDOSTA, Ga. – The West Florida Argonauts struck for three first half goals and never looked back in a Gulf South Conference victory over the Valdosta State soccer team on Friday night in Valdosta, Ga.
Alissa Festagallo set the tone during the 19
th minute after redirecting a Sara Helgadottir pass into the left corner for her first goal of the season. The score put UWF on top 1-0, before the Argos added two more goals from Svenja Burkhardt and Kaley Ward, respectively, before the conclusion of the first half.
In the second period, Emily Vogler connected in the 59
th minute, and Helgadottir, who racked up three assists on the night, switched roles in the 62
nd minute to drive home her fifth goal of the season and put the Argonauts up 5-0.
The Blazers never let up in the second half, but the deficit proved to be too much to overcome for the red and black. VSU struck for four shots in the contest, two of which came from
Logan Lindy.
Valdosta State fell to 0-6-1 on the season following the loss and dropped to 0-3 in GSC play. Meanwhile, UWF improved to 5-2 overall and remained unbeaten against GSC opponents with a 3-0 record.
The Blazers will hit the road immediately on Saturday morning for a trip to Mobile, Ala., where they will square off on Sunday afternoon against Spring Hill at 2:00 p.m. EST.
